What constantly stunting allows the Cowboys to do is confuse the offensive line into thinking there are more players in front of them than there actually are. Think about it. The offensive line walks up and points to the person they are going to block on a given play.
But, once the play begins, what if that player you were expecting to block, you didn't see them? And was suddenly replaced with another. Wouldn't you think there are now two players you would have to block? The one you were expecting must be around somewhere. You just don't know where.
That would be confusing. Wouldn't it? Yes. I would think it would be. And scary. I would be backing up if I was the OL guy. Trying to block the player I could see, while looking for the other guy that was supposed to be there. But I could not see.
That way, you can actually rush 4 players and have the psychological effect on the OL of 8 men.
What is really disappointing is that most of the OL squads in the NFL seem to have the uncanny ability to block all 8 of our guys. This suggests that most NFL teams have OL squads that are much better than we are being lead to believe.
We may need to rush 5 so we can have the effect of 10. Surly they can't block 10? Can they?
We'll see.
