The defense is much better than 2014. When Romo returns you'll see that this team is much better than the 2014 team. We should already be in the Super Bowl conversation.

This Cowboys team is 15th in yards allowed per game and 10th in points allowed per game (without several key players).

They were 19th and 18th respectively in 2014.

Actually a good snapshot...but with the addition that these four games were against the norm, not the quality of the league.

Hardy was never Haley. But, both Hardy and Garrett should have found a way to make it work. Johnson or old Tom would have made Hardy a pro bowler. Garrett is weak and failed the interests of the club by losing Hardy. He was, like the man or not, the best defender the club had. Too bad.
Hardy was [as I read] disrespectful. That alone is a no go. Hardy has a strong troubled personality.
This isn't a prison and Reds not the warden. Coaches don't want that head ache.

I'll tell ya what, with the way that this secondary makes adjustments, if they even get a hint of a pass rush, they could be very respectable. Not dominant, mind you, but respectable.

We haven't played a real QB yet so pull back on the reins.

I know one thing:
1. We will sign a FA or draft a DE early

I think one thing:
1. When we finally see a healthy Tapper, a speedy, powerful DE who was misused as a 3-4 read and react DE in college, I think DLaw and Tapper will form a solid DE tandem, and if we hit on one more this off season, that position will be in good shape.

I hope one thing:
1. At least half the DEs on this team currently, all guys we talked ourselves into hoping they might be players, will be interviewing elsewhere next season. Hayden actually gave us more at DT than most of these guys have given us at DE.

Hardy was just arrested for getting caught with blow. If we'd 'made it work' he'd still be on this team and likely busted for drugs by now. No thanks.

Exactly.

I hope they step up next week-- but the Cinci offense is legit. Will be interesting to see how DLaw affects the game.

They are forcing more turnovers like they did in 2014-- which is a really encouraging sign.

Whether we win or lose-- the next 3 games are a great dose of reality. I like how scrappy they are playing at the moment and the team has an ability to overcome adversity. Looking forward to seeing how they stack up against better competition.

We only have 5 turnovers through 4 games. Not exactly 2014ish. We need 2 turnovers/game. And our sack totals are pretty abysmal. The next two weeks will be the real test to see if we are playoff material.

Getting Lawrence back will only help. Most reports I read during training camp were that he was almost unblockable.

I don't know who said it but the Cowboys are not forcing turnovers like the 2014 team.

Right now, the Cowboys are on pace to generate 20 turnovers. The 2014 team had over 30 turnovers. Hopefully, with Lawrence back and Scandrick back, that trend will increase because as they face much better teams, they are going to need to force more turnovers IMO.

With this young core, adding a legitimate DL and additional WR gets us in the Super Bowl conversation.

Sadly, I don't think it's this year, but it's coming soon.
DL yes, but a real Middle Linebacker is a must!! WR not a real need. We are not seeing a lot from TE except Wit and he is old.

Hoping Lawrence turns out to be that guy. It's not going to be next week (he's not even in football shape). If he starts to round the corner by the 3rd week of October, I'm good.

He isn't in football shape after a full training camp and preseason?

Well considering preseason and full training camp ended a month ago and I don't believe he's been allowed to practice with the team, I would say that he's probably not in tip top football game shape at this point.

As bad as the Defense started the game I give them props how they played for the remainder of the game. Holding any opponent to 3 points for 3 qrts is not an easy task. After the bone head mistake by Butler on the unsportsman like conduct I was nervous of how the Cowboys defense would hold up as the Cowboys were forced to punt and knowing the 9ers would be going 4 downs with ample time to tie the game up but the defense went out and did the job. By the way big play by Mo on that 4th down to knock the WR out short of the 1st down to seal the deal
