Yeah but , they also passed on Bennie Logan and Johnathan hankins.I believe Jason Garrett said that rod gets whoever he wants on defense

That's within the constraint of Jerry/Stephen/Jason building the way they want. I doubt Rod had much to do with the decision to draft Escobar. That was his first year and he wasn't the coordinator.

The 1 Tech usually takes on 2 players but if you have solid LBers you can get away with not having a monster in the middle.
Also, Collins has the size and skill set with Ash behind him.

Yep, the 3 passes called on the goal line against Seattle instead of giving it to Zeke prove how “very” he is. He’s a putz.
You're right on that particular situation, but it's amplified when a series doesn't work. I've used that example myself to illustrate poor game time decisions. But, there are a lot of things that go into it and unless the specifics are clear, I guess just bashing JG is the easiest thing to do.

This is a team that does not value DT. We live in this idea of having LB's shoot the gap to tackle and pressure the QB. Which seems great on paper but is quite a different thing in practice. Especially when your LB's are Sean Lee and Jaylon Smith. Now they add another guy who sustained a neck injury to the mix. Every year Lee gets hurt and is bound to miss 5 - 6 games. Our defense falls apart anytime he isn't on the field. Perhaps it is time to rethink the idea that having Lee in that role might not be the brightest idea? Oh well, onward to the next disappointing season.

Why do you say Marinelli holds more blame but bring up two high draft picks that he was involved in choosing?
I was using those examples to show that at one time rod seemed to consider the one tech
A important position worthy of investing early round draft picks. i dont know why he seems to have changed his mind . actually the cowboys drafted Marcus spears early in the 2005 draft right? Although parcelles probably
Wanted spears this should show jerry is willing to listen to his coaches and draft who they want.

You seem to suggest that marinelli has no influence or control over who is on his roster and bears no responsibility for it .let me provide some examples of what I consider marinelli's influence. The cowboys signed both henry Melton and Stephen paea when they were free agents.they drafted maliek Collins but passed on Andrew billings who was available until the fifth round of the 2013 draft. They also passed on ashawn Robinson.why do you think the cowboys drafted demArcus Lawrence , randy Gregory , chidobe awuzie and jaylon smith in the second round and drafted Byron Jones and taco Charleston in the first round?

It seems your moving the goal posts . when I gave the example of the cowboys passing on Sharif Floyd because rod didn' want him , you want praise rod. When I blame rod for passing on Logan and hankins in the later rounds you go back to blaming jeryy.

Did he or does he have a different boss?

Spears was a 3-4 end. The brain trust stuck Ratliff at NT.

I'm saying he's not getting the final say. You brought up Melton and Paea- doesn't that say he gets the need? Billings is a bad example so far. I was on the A'Shawn train almost all by myself for a while. But Jaylon isn't done and if he returns to form, he could be just as impactful. If not, then they whiffed on a potential stud. It happens.

I didn't move goalposts, I take issue with the belief it's more Rod than the FO. I said Floyd was a bad example because they got an All Pro instead. That's the FO, too.

Ultimately it's the guys in charge who make the final decisions. Jerry defers to Stephen for draft questions. McClay is part of it, Garrett, etc. I'm sure when they say Marinelli gets the players he wants, it's more about not getting guys he doesn't. He doesn't have the final say.

Remind me again how awful our run D has been and why we must address that with a 1T. I'll wait.

When we had Irving, D-Law, Lee and Hitch all going, I actually thought this defense looked pretty freaking good. Our pass rush was the best we'd had in a decade and the LBs were just cleaning up everything. Of course, when we lost 3 out of 4 of those guys then the defense was just a dumpster fire.

If LVE can replace Hitch and Irving keeps his head on straight, this unit could surprise some people.

No way was it good enough. Half the line was average or bad. Backups were bad. Jaylon was bad last year and Hitch was nothing special. Safeties were the WORST in the NFL and corners were first year rookie 2nd and 3rd round picks. NO chance was it good enough. Watch.........if and when we finally get a top notch D, you will look back and laugh at the players we have now. The problem is by the time that happens, Lee will probably be over the hill.
