Marist Liufau any future

Ahem. Just who has been proclaiming that our D was terrible all offseason?
True. But I think it’s not fair to him or anyone else on D to be judged by last year. Especially with the DC. I’m reserving my judgement until we see what the new coaches can do.

There are plenty of lower draft picks that outperform where they were taken. The light may still come on. And this coaching staff may be the catalyst. I’m not holding my breath though.
You’re wise because it’s looking like your face would turn blue.

A sixth round pick who fails to excel is expected.

A third round pick who doesn’t get extended is a bust.

Isn’t this only going to be his third year? Some players take longer to develop. Happens all the time. And I’m still not holding my breath. Lol

To make room for Barham ( who has a terrible draft profile) , Marist has to go.

At least Marist can tackle and cover in zone.

My Questions for any draft pick that is not a starter would be

1. Does the kid play special teams well?

2. how many DC's has he had?

3. Is he a team guy that learns from his mistakes and works hard?

4. has he been arrested or suspended?

5. can he stay healthy?

Guys like Sam Williams, Randy Gregory, Mazi Smith ...... they all failed at several of these things.

Yes I watch every game live then rewatch at least once during the week.

He regressed last year due to Flus. I have no clue why Flus stuck with Murray and neither does anyone else. We questioned it all season. He can play in this league. Just needs the right DC. Having a new DC every year isn't helping. This will be his best chance with CP.
Flus? He is everyone’s scapegoat. Flus is a very well respected LB coach and I can assure you he will be a DC again. ML is a bad LB. Period. CP has never coached a defense before. The issues last year were 100 pct roster. Look at the opening day Defense last vs what will be this year. 2 maybe 3 holdovers. That says it all. Flus??? Be better.

The draft and FA signings point to him not being on the roster. Guy is a long shot right now.

I think there are some valid reasons to scapegoat Eberflus but he’s been extremely successful developing LBs. if you don’t take a step forward as an LB under that guy it’s fair to ask if they can actually play at this level. CP asking him to change positions just about confirms that Liufau isn’t an NFL caliber backer.

Eberflus had him on the edge too at times.

He's just not a very heady player.

These are two things he's pretty bad at...

Liufau is a fun player but he's undisciplined with his eyes and angles.
Him being a fun player is the reason fans will always hold out hope. Dude plays at 1000mph and is easy to root for. He’s actually someone I’d love to have to admit I was wrong on 6 months from now, but I think the reality is that he’s just good enough to play at this level.

This is why people who get all wrapped up in numbers when evaluating a prospect are so wrong

Marist had all the physical traits you want in a defensive football player, fire aggressiveness, want to, etc. size and speed and so on
But in the end how good of a FOOTBALL player is he?

He’s a spaz on the field. High motor, will bust his ***, you’l never have to question his heart.

But that leads to playing out of control at times, being out of position, etc.

If Parker can rein him in, he can be a piece for this defense. If not, he’ll be gone after this year.
Yes a damn missile that will run hard and all you'll see if long hair blowing in the wind, I like the kid, just hope he gets under control

IF he learns some discipline as regards playing, then he could be a real contributor. He was one of our leading tacklers on special teams so that is a factor helping him stick this year. The ST coach (who for some unknown reason is still here) really likes him so that is a plus for making the roster.
He has got a skill set that can be very useful if A he is used right and B he does what he is supposed to do
The only role I see him taking now is backup EDGE and LB with a regular spot on ST.

He is one of Garrett's position flex guys.

Terrible??? Not from what I saw at nfl.com and their draft profile.

Overview
Barham logged most of his snaps at off-ball linebacker, but his 2025 tape showed explosiveness that will attract teams seeking a developmental rush ‘backer in an odd front. He’s raw as a rusher, relying heavily on athleticism, but the missing elements are teachable. Whether outside or inside, he’s a professional block-beater with the tools to stack or slip blocks, though his edge-setting needs work. His bend and reactive agility create unlikely tackle chances that few can find. His intensity and motor are top-tier but he needs to play with better discipline to avoid negative snaps. With explosive traits and inside-outside versatility, he projects as an impactful future starter once his technique catches up.

He was projected as a sixth round pick in several of the guides I followed. This was a draft blunder but it was Zimmer that supposedly pounded the table for him
This what happens when a football GM and owner relies on a hidden GM, McClay, to sort out the challenges of competing in the NFL.

If you turn over coaches like burgers on a BBQ grill, see defensive coaches here, you are going to struggle to establish any sort system continuity or identity.

Parker may end up beng great, but we can't expect miracles as he is sorting out everyone's roles in yet again is another new defence.

I hate to say it, but where is the enduring football mind in this organization?
