Marty B Out in NY - Should Cowboys Sign Him?

The irony is that he threw Romo and the Cowboys in general under the bus but then Eli (and Coughlin) ended up having the same issues with him as Tony did.

At least Dallas had a HOF level TE in front of him. New York has nothing, though it would not at all surprise me if they draft Ertz or Eifert.

In the end, if Marty would just shut up and play, I think he can play at an average level for someone in this league. He blocks really well and is a serviceable receiver.

I think he'll end up playing with his brother.

He's a good player -- just needs to shut his trap

I agree. He needs to stay off the social media sites and let his play on the field be what he's known for. Not an All-Pro TE but overall he is a good football player. And no, he burned too many bridges to return here.

How is he a good player? He's bombed out in two spots with two of the better QBs in the league throwing to him. It's not like he got cut from the Jaguars.

He was good last season and with us he was a good blocker. It wasn't a coincidence that the Giants run game got better with him. He's a good blocker. He's not Jimmy Graham. Its not his fault.

55 catches is a substantial contributions from a guy who is also an outstanding blocker. He was the 2nd leading receiver on his team.

That's not bombing out. It is putting up numbers that put you outside of the salary range your present team is willing to spend.

I would sign him the day he announces he's going to stop calling himself Marty B and start calling himself Martellus Bennett.

But I don't think we're gonna want a 50 year old tight end.

Yes, we should sign him as long as there's no signing bonus.

Then we should keep him around all offseason and cut him a week before the regular season starts to wipe out his contract and give him no chance to sign elsewhere.

We missed his inline blocking last year. I would love to have him back for that as he's one of the best blocking TEs in the league. I don't know about all his off field stuff and really don't care as long as he follows rules and stays out of trouble. I do wonder about his relationship with Romo and perhaps others including his coaches. I get the distinct feeling he and his TE coach did not get along but I'm speculating. I've seen players leave with some words and come back and it's all good. What was reported is not enough to keep him off the team.

I agree with some that he performed reasonably well last year. We're not privy to what caused the problem there or the magnitude of it. He may get more money to play elsewhere.

I'd say he won't be back here for the above reasons but more so he'd be a progress stopper for Hanna. Wherever he goes, he will want to start and that's the biggest reason he won't be here. I hope he does well.

He's been openly offering to give the Giants a hometown discount in the media since the end of the offseason, and they still say "Thanks, but no thanks".

Kinda speaks volumes.

That I didn't know. Yes, that raises the red flags higher.

Martellus Bennett might be willing to take less money to remain a New York Giant. The tight end signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract during the offseason after four sub-par years with the Dallas Cowboys.

"I could sit here and tell you I would, but it depends on what it is," Bennett told The Star-Ledger's Jenny Vrentas. "You never know until the moment comes. But yea, that is something I would do.

"A hometown discount? Yeah."

You see, Marty B fancies himself an entertainer, and since LA doesn't have a professional team he's kinda desperate to stay in New York to still be close to "da biz".
