It`s not like he`s had much of an opportunity...He was showing good glimpses but then for whatever reason, garrett stopped going to him...he`s a 21 year old guy with a world of athleticism in his 2nd year. Remember this is a guy who came out very early out of college so this is all a process for him.

We played well because of the offensive game-plan... If Bennett played in this game-plan, the results most likely would have been the same...

So why bother keeping him instead of trading him for a #1 pick if he has no additional impact in the game compared to Phillips.

I think Phillips is a good enough 2nd TE for what we seem to want to do offensively. It doesn't look like the second TE is much of a receiver in Garrett's offense so there is no point in putting a premium on the position.

We could really use that extra #1 on the OL or ILB which are our two biggest weaknesses. That would have more impact on the team than a second TE who is a slightly better receiver and will get only about one catch a game for 10 yards.

Pillips played well. I thought he did a really good job blocking in that game.

The point is there is nothing to compare to, because we played a totally different game-plan last night then we normally do. The whole offense was out of sync, not just Bennett prior to this game and Garrett called a good game that utilized their strengths. It is like out OL, that looks horrid when we just go shot-gun all day. When we went power-blocking we just keep moving the chains and Romo had time. Bennett could have been better for all we know because of his talent level. His blocking can be top-notch and the last few games he was coming on.

We know Bennett's talent level is ridiculous and it is more a matter of playing to this team's strength than anything else.

I think his value just went down to a 2nd round pick, but I would still pull the trigger in the offseason. Dallas needs to rebuild the Oline and the extra 2nd rounder would be a big help. Bennet will be a terror on another team, but his value to Dallas is not that high.

The only reason to be spending that high of a pick on a TE is if you want to a guy who is going to be a pass catcher and a blocker. If all you want is a blocker, you can find one easily in FA or the latter part of the draft.

Maybe if he we feature him next year in the preseason, we can get him back to being a first rounder and trade him for a pick in the 2011 draft.

If the Bengals were seriously danging a #1 for our second TE who is rarely used in the passing game and Jerry turned it down, he is nuts. You don't trade Witten for a #1, but your backup TE? This team really needs a proper GM.

dont get me wrong phillips had a big game and came through in the clutch! BUT did you ever think of why phillips had such a good game?? Hmmmm... it was probably bc he was the last guy the saints were worried about! think about it b4 tonights game he had 2 catches for 8 yrds. So why would they game plan for phillips b4 austin, roy, witten, barber, jones, etc.? AND why would they give up on a second round draft pick just after two years?? Think before you speak mane!

So, where do you think Bennet falls in this order? probably the same place as phillips.

ummm...when the hell did Phillips have his breakout???

Do you mean that 5 yard pass catch? Martellus Bennett is 3 times the TE that Phillips will ever have the talent of being.

Ridiculous to assume we'd be better off with Phillips.

Marty B's lack of a productive season...and the breakout performance of Phillips-----really shows that Marty B is NOW expendable... Marty B's had the opportunity..... but did not make the best of it.....his lack of performance made way for Phillips to step and show his trustworthiness to the team....Phillips has earned Romo's and the coaches trust in both blocking and catching......somthing Mary B still lacks......Saelavee Marty B....

You're kidding, right? It's c'est la vie and it doesn't even make sense the way you use it (much like the rest of your post).

Well even if you wanted to or considered trading Bennett, it's too late now. Cincy had a ton of injuries and felt they were a good TE away. Now they've got FA and the draft to address that. Odds are another team wont be desperate enough to offer a 1st round pick for Bennett.

Having depth is a good thing. Hopefully Bennett bounces back and shows to be the beast he appears to be.

As I remember, you wanted to trade Romo when you thought a 3rd had been offered for him a few years ago. Either no patience or no sense, or neither patience nor sense.

Yep.. We would be set at the draft... Two first round picks. We could of used them picks to draft and safety and tackle.

I never saw it confirmed there was a first round offer for him. Can you tell me where you saw that? I read rumors but nothing solid.

That's not entirely true.

I believe the issue back then was there were rumours that Saints wanted to trade for Romo in 2006 when Sean Payton got the job. It was rumoured to be a second round pick. I said that I thought it was plausible that Payton would give that up for Romo because he had a good idea of what Romo was capable of but others here said there was no way anyone was going to offer a second round pick for a UDFA who hadn't started a game in the NFL.

What you might be confusing was back in the days of Henson-Hutch-Carter-Romo when Parcells took over the team in 2003-5. At that time, I was a big fan of Henson and didn't think Romo had enough arm strength to be a QB in the NFL as all he seemed to do was throw lollipops when he was in the game back in 2004. I didn't understand why he was getting more opportunities in preseason than Henson.

By the time the 2006 preseason rolled around Henson had been released and it was starting to dawn on everyone how much Romo had progressed and many wanted him to start over Bledsoe.

I've been a big fan since 2006 when he started and recognized he was something special after his first start against Carolina.

It's all just rumors.

Nevertheless, many here hold the position that we should not trade Bennett for a first round pick (whether or not it was actually offered by the Bengals).
