The fact that he's not 'in shape' for Dallas's intensity tells me we've been doing the right things as far as getting the players ready to play these games.

Man some of ya'll just want this team and players to fail. I don't know how you can take a negative spin on that interview unless you are trying to our damnedest to look for something negative.

Dude basically said that he is not used to how the Cowboys practice and he has to get in better shape to feel comfortable practicing at that pace. That should tell volumes about this coaching staff and the intensity they have our guys working at in practice! He has the right attitude and appears to be up to the challenge.

Yeah it's a bit exciting to hear somebody coming in from the outside and commenting at almost being overwhelmed by how hard the Cowboys practice. It kind of makes sense why guys on the Dline, they may not be ProBowlers, but they're buying into what Dallas/Kiffin/Marinelli are selling and are giving it their all and then some.

I think its a good signing. Dallas is becoming the "Last Chance/Last Stop" for players. Austin was 2nd round pick for the gmen for a reason. He has talent. He will either get his crap togeather or get cut. There is no real cap issues to speak of. You have to admit, it would be sweet for us to take one of the giants high picks and make him a player for us.Marenelli already laid the law down to the kid, if he sells out we could hit big on this one.

This place kills me...sign a guy off the street and expect him to perform like a starter...Give this guy time to acclimate!!!! Cowboys got something here. If they can just show some patience..they might have something. And I'm not talking 2-3 weeks. Give him this year....an off season-training camp next year. Guy has got all the things you are looking for in a DT. One thing that I hate about he Cowboys....they are so fast to rush to judgement on players. Let guys develop!!!

Interesting. Was listening to NFL Radio yesterday and Bugger McFarland (Former Tampa Bay player). He said Austin had trained in Florida the last two summers and that he (Bugger) had watched him work out. Said Austin had gained too much weight and that and this is a quote "looked like he had a pack of hot dogs in his neck". Said he needed to drop 20 pounds and that with his quickness and power he could be something special. I think if Bugger could see it, our coaches can see it even better. Looks for this guy to drop weight and get into Dallas Football shape quick. I think we are playing a totally different defense with Miami was and therefore he needs to get his body in shape to fit our defense. I actually think it could work out and if it doesn't he can be a bouncer at a Miami Strip Club.

I think it was Chris Collinsworth who said that we don't even do sprints in practice anymore because they run so hard during practice

I agree as long as Austin is putting in the effort. It is a 2 way street yes he needs time to develop and learn but he also has to shake the tag of having poor work ethic and taking plays off. My hope is the staff and players motivate him to be the best player he can. One thing Cowboys do not need is a slacker, this team has done a good job of removing those type from the roster no need to go backwards.

I hope Marinelli kicked things up an extra notch for Austin's first practice just to prove a point.

It goes back to the report that the Giants wanted him to play at around 320 but he wanted to play at about 307.

The same thing happened with Drake Nevis. He gained weight for the 3-4 teams (Indy, SD). It was reported that it took about 2 weeks for him to get into the shape for the Cowboy scheme.

Not saying he works out, but if he does, and Nevis does, and Selvie continues to play out of his mind, maybe DL wont be such a huge priority in the draft. Ware will be back soon. Crawford will be back from injury. Wilber is showing improvement every week. Hatcher is playing out of his mind. We got rid of some cancer in Ratliff. Spencer will not be back. So, we would be 7 deep going into the draft if they all work out, 8 if Vega amounts to anything.

I still want to address the DL in the draft twice......one DE, one DT.

The Cowboys give plenty of time to develop, sometimes too much time. Us fans however, we sure are a fickle bunch. There are a lot of Veruca Salts in this bunch......"I want it now, give it to me"

I saw that. Can't say I actually watched him specifically on any play, but I did notice him in between plays. He was excited to be out there you could tell, .. and he was interacting with teammates in between plays, so that is a good thing.

I've got my fingers crossed.

I saw him make a solo stop.

Let's see how it goes not only with Austin but with the other guys as well.

Maybe just maybe we've something to work with in the future.
