I would think they would cut Manuel before Cassell.

It's not as much about who is better right now as it is who costs more and who their management thinks may have upside later.

They'll either keep 3 or cut Cassel and his 4.15 million hit.

I hear they also want to pay Marcell Dareus and could use Cassel's cap hit

By most accounts here in NY he was third in line.

However he's a young QB who could still develop into a solid player. It's early enough in his career to where the jury is still out on him. Cassel on the other hand has been bouncing around the league and is what he is a backup QB. Personally I would dump him before I would dump a still developing young QB but if Buffalo does release Manual then they obviously view him as hopeless.

Brilliant! Let's give up a draft pick for a guy who will be cut. No, we can't wait for him to get cut and negotiate a deal. We need to trade for him RIGHT this second so we will also be on the hook to pay him $4.75M for this year.

If we don't, the Browns might take him! They drop QB garbage like no one else! And look who we got? Oh wait....

I can see either one getting cut. They are both dreadful.

If they cut Manual then they obviously prefer Cassel's experience because the QB they're going with hasn't any.

What decision between Brady and Cassel? lol

If you recall, Cassel played very well in Brady's absence. In fact, the pundits were actually saying Belichick was pondering whether or not to keep Brady.

If Cassel gets cut he will clear waivers. No team is going to claim his salary.

I heard what some of the pundits were saying but no evidence was provided that Belichick was considering whether to move on from Brady and go with Cassel. If Belichick thought for one second that Cassel could take over for Brady at any point he wouldn't have traded him the following season. Although Brady was coming off an ACL he was only 31 and didn't depend on mobility. As long as his arm/shoulder/elbow wasn't injured he was staying in NE. In 08 Cassel took over a loaded Pats team that went 16-0 the previous season. Had Brady not been injured on opening day of the 08 season I believe NE wouldn't have lost anymore than 3 games that year and in all likelihood would have ended up in the SB again.

Belichick's head coaching career was going nowhere before Brady. He failed in Cleveland and was failing in NE until Brady took over. Even though Belichick has been able to move on from a number of great players through the years and continue to win it's because Brady has been the one common denominator all through NE's great years. Regardless the receivers and RB's Brady has had over the past 15 years he's made it work. Belichick will empty Brady's tank before he ever moves on from him because he has yet to prove he can win consistently without him. I promise you once Brady hangs it up those Pats teams won't be the same anymore and Belichick won't look like such a great coach anymore. All the great HOF coaches never had the same success once their great QB's retired.

My point was that Cassell has fallen off the map after the media was basically saying he was the heir apparent to Brady that season.

That was the media saying that Belichick certainly didn't think so or he wouldn't have traded him.

Cassel costs $4.75 million this year. Still want him in a trade?

This is probably why he was cut, The others are cheaper and about as good or better than him.
I think they are going to put tanney on their PS.

Dallas took a long look at vaughn ,so it is possible they might let him go, but unless they do that they wont be grabbing any QB's.
And I think they will go with weeden as # 2 so getting another qb is pointless?

I'd like to see us put Tanney back on our practice squad.

Well I was thinking the same thing, but really tanney would be better off with Tenn, I think he has a better chance of learning and getting
better there. Also a better chance he might get to play at some point in season.

If he came here he would just be in limbo, Romo will play every game unless he cant walk, and if Romo was to be out a game or even many games
it would be weeden playing, and he would have to then get hurt or play really bad to have them play tanney.
Dallas has yet to take any qb and make them better, in fact they seem to get worse, Romo excluded, and other coaches developed Romo 2003-6

The thing I noticed in PS games is all the Tenn qb's played better than avg, so they must have a good qb coach or something.

I watched one game with tyrod, and thought wow this guy could start somewhere, and Tanney looked better than in the past.

Only thing is Tenn will put him on PS probably, and so some other team may take him and it would be better for Tanney to stay in Tenn.
If Tyrod or Mettenberg get hurt Tanney would then move up to # 2.
