Right now I think Church and Allen will be the starting safeties. Wilcox I think will make it then outside of Johnson you have 4 others trying to make the team in Frampton, Hamliton, Heath and McCray. I hope Johnson can come back quickly and show he can be counted on if not then his career will end before it ever began.

Can we keep 6 safeties? haha

I would keep Church, Allen, Wilcox, MJ, and Hamilton on the active roster and keep Heath for one of the PS spots without a doubt.

I really don't know how many safeties the Cowboys are likely to keep. Frankly I do not recall how many we kept last season but I would think the numbers would be the same for this year.

1st off I don't resent him at all. I feel bad for him that he has had to deal with these constant injury problems that have kept him off the field. I'm sure the coaches do like him and frankly I have high hope for him but realisticly if you can't stay on the field it is hard to make a team.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you did. Others did above your post. I was acknowledging that, and then switching gears to address your point.

I agree, he has to stay on the field. But you can tell from the way they kept from IRing him last season that they like him. And he played well this week. The niggling injuries have to stop, but they guy has some runway yet.

I hope things work out for him. We could use as much help as we can get at that spot but he has got to find a way to stay on the field. He is no help to the team if he can't stay healthy

Any reason why you'd keep Matt Johnson ? He has made one good play in practice in two years .

I see. "Stress reaction" is a precursor to a stress fracture. Which I'm sure Johnson has penciled in for August 29. Unless he pulls a hamstring getting out of bed, breaks his small toe putting on his fuzzy slippers and accidentally stabs himself in the eye with his toothbrush.

Don't say the H-Word!! The guy has the potential to be a really good S, but so far doesn't seem to have the body that will let him reach that full potential.

Right now MJ is averaging one broken part for every play made,i am not sure he will ever play a down for us in regular season.

Is Johnson eligible for the practice squad? If so, I think he may be there to start the season. Barring further injuries to the safety position, no way Johnson makes the team if he misses the next couple of weeks of practice.

McCray is just a special teams player and not much of a safety. Need to see what Hamilton and Heath look like in a game. I believe both Heath and Hamilton will make the roster before Johnson as things stand right now.

Understood, I would just rather hang onto guys that have talent and hope they can turn things around than hang onto JAGs just cause their always out there. We knew coming out Matt was a project, to give up this early would be a waste of time.

Now if we have another guy that steps up while Matt is out and takes the roster spot by his performance, that is different and yet to be determined.

Let's get something straight....
If you have a physical injury that the doctors say requires you to not play, that has no bearing on how badly you want to play or how tough you are.

Some of you seem to get this mixed up; as if he is some king of wuss for having an injury. Who knows, maybe his body cannot handle. Time will tell. Sure hope not, of course.
I do recall Fred Taylor having several issues early on before putting in an outstanding and long career. Clearly his early injuries didnot ean he was a wuss.

But I'm sure nobody on the planet is more frustrated than Johnson is. This is his life long dream and opportunity.

I believe that it means that there isn't clear sign of a fracture but they are seeing something that could be one. Found this definition:

A stress reaction precedes a stress fracture in the bone fatigue failure continuum and is hallmarked by bony microfailure without cortical
disruption. These injuries are most common in the lower extremities of endurance and repetitive-motion athletes such as runners, jumpers, skaters, and soldiers.

This is correct.
