Matt Johnson Heading To Season Ending IR per Broaddus

Didn't we just draft Wilcox in the 3rd? Why would you care if we IR Johnson? He has good potential and the coaches have been impressed by him. His injuries are very unfortunate and we're all frustrated by them. I was at the HOF game, saw him make the tackle and get hurt. I was like "You've gotta be kidding me...". The situation totally sucks but there was no need to cut him. He's not taking up a roster spot and not even occupying the IR spot that is eligible to return. As Cowboys fans, I would think we would all be hoping that he'll come back strong next year and compete/add depth at safety.

In next year's draft, I see Jerry passing on a decent prospect with the thoughts that Johnson will be ready. If Wilcox turns into a solid player, Dallas still needs another safety. Johnson gives them the illusion that they have one.

Deciding a player "can't stay healthy" 16 months into his career is ridiculous.

Yeah, the decision that he is durable as notebook paper should have took much less than 16 months to figure out.

I still don't understand the hype. The guy was a reach as a LATE (last pick) 4th rounder. Why does everyone assume he is a starter if he can get healthy? I don't get it, never have.

You're right, we should just start cutting any player that gets injured.

After two consecutive years and barely a half of a quarter of real exhibition play and a handful of practices, yes, we should.

you forgot the college & high school injuries as well, though I'm sure it's just bad luck and he's not injury prone

''Unfortunately he has had legitimate injuries that he didn't have in college,'' executive vice president of player personnel Stephen Jones said earlier in the week. ''But we did our research. He wasn't an injury guy. But we haven't given up on him.''

Well, I guess he is now. Less than a quarter of production in preseason in 2 years.

Has there never been a time where Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones were not fist pumping or high fiving over a draft choice? What does that prove other than they were doing what they always do, thinking they pulled the wool over everyone else's eyes when in reality, and as their track record proves, their supposed "clever" pick was actually nothing close to it.

Go back and watch the footage if you can find it. They were legitimately pleased the guy was there. Or just look how they tried to keep him available last season, despite missing so much time in camp. They like him.

Not sure how to separate that from the boondoggling you see them doing it all the time, because I don't share your cynicism about the team management. That makes it hard for me to differentiate one potentially imaginary behavior from another.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. They're doing everything they can to prove they weren't idiots for massively reaching on a player who wasn't draftable.

But the end to this story is Matt Johnson selling insurance while his name joins a long list of terrible draft day decisions.

I guess I know that's what you're saying. I just find it hard to believe you expect anybody to take that sort of analysis seriously.

Matt Johnson might end up selling insurance. I guess we'll see. From what little he's been on the field, though, he's looked pretty good.

The guy hasn't played more than a quarter of preseason in 2 years. Kneejerkers?

Yup, because you're making a rash decision based solely on emotion and no common sense. We have the opportunity to hold onto the guy without it costing the team anything in terms of a roster spot or salary cap space but hey, let's just cut the guy because we're really frustrated. It's madness.
