Why Dallas and not some other team? I would love to have him but I notice that fans look at trade from only their point of view and not that of the team who they want to trade with.

Williams' desire to return 'home' to Texas would play a key role in any trade.

If a team were to trade for him, they would have to have a long-term deal in place, otherwise they would essentially be renting Williams for the remainder of this season.

And Williams would have to be willing to play in the city of the team that trades for him.

We know he wants to go 'home', therefore it's doubtful he would agree to play anywhere outside Texas rather than waiting for free agency next season.

I just read that Martin Mayhew has been promoted from Assistant GM to the top guy.

It will be interesting to see if he has the juice to pull off a deal like this or if he sits on his hands for the remainder of this season...

And I know players will go where the money is be it in their home state or some other team. Sorry I don't buy into the I want to play close to home any more than I believe players when they says it is not about the money after they sign these huge contracts. Would Williams like to come to Dallas yes I would not doubt that would he goes somewhere else if the offer was better I think so.

Millen deserved to be fired but no more after these three losses than in the offseason. Not like the team is going to improve now.

It's funny how all the blame gets thrown on the GM or coach or owner without knowing who was ultimately responsible.

Not saying it was Millen's fault or not. What was Millen's role in the disater in Detroit? Only an insider would know. Who has the final say about the draft?

Detroit as a city just plain stinks. That city is one of the worst ghettos in the US. I won't even consider a job in Detroit regardless of the pay. I'm sure the players all hate the city. I'm sure that has some affect on the players' performance.

A quck fix would be to move the team to LA. Lions in the Coliseum. The players would be a lot happier.

Throw in a chance at greatness, a serious chance at that elusive Superbowl ring, the chance to be a part of one of the most potent offenses in NFL history, and I think RW might pass on a few more dollars and a career of mediocrity on another lame team.

Detroit is not by its self when you about about cities that have gone down. And I bet if the money was right, you would accept a job working in Detroit. IMHO...........

Sure.

If the Cowboys were offering $5 million a season and the 49'ers were offering $8 million?

Yeah, I could see that.

But when have you known Jerry and the Cowboys to be cheap?

And if the offers are even close, the Cowboys' intangibles trump anything else.

I actually think that - given the dire situation with the Rams - that Dallas might be able to leverage a better deal for either Roy Williams or Torry Holt.

Both the Lions and Rams are terrible and everyone knows it, including whoever is left with the job of rebuilding them. It would probably be in that person's best interest to 'sell off' whatever commodities the team has for future draft picks.

I don't think the Rams could get much for Torry Holt.

I don't know.

If I were Jerry, I'd give them a 2nd rounder for him tomorrow.

He's not what he once was but he's still a Top 20 receiver at least.

And in the Cowboys' offense, I think he could be Top 10 given the coverage he'd receive.

He's being wasted in St Louis.

I would trade anything more than a 4th for him or any other WR for that matter. I'd try low balling them and be like Randy Moss went for a 4th.

Does it really make sense for this team to lowball teams for draft picks if it meant the difference between having a great offense and an unstoppable juggernaut?

I don't think so.

I think getting a Torry Holt this year would far outweigh the value of a #2 pick next year.

Moss was a unique situation of a great player with great baggage, much like Terrell Owens.

Under normal circumstances, a player of that caliber is never available, much less available for such a low price.

The only thing I have to say is, thank god he is not the cowboys gm. The firing of Millen has been a long time coming. It's about damn time.

After drafting all those sorry WR's to try and justify the Harrington mistake -

It's amazing in late 2008 he still had a job. Zero talent skills evaluating QB's and WR's.

I agree with you. If RW11 gets a healthy offer from whomever is trading for him and he will take it despite his desire to go home to Texas. The bottom line is, these players seek security and the 1st major offer they get they will take more times than not. Javon Walker wanted to be reunited with Ray Sherman and play with his buddy T.O. so bad up until crazy Al broke the bank for him.

And for those of you who see the Javon Walker situation as completely different because he was a free agent, you are correct. The situation is even worse if you are the property of a team. Folks tend to underestimate how much power the team has in these matters. Look at Brett Favre, he wanted to play in Minnesota so badly and GB traded him where they wanted to trade him. The same will apply to RW11. Detroit holds all the cards. It makes no difference to them whether he gets a long-term deal with another team. All they care about is what they get in return.

As for the team trading for RW11, if he refuses to sign a long-term deal with them, they now have the right to franchise him for the next two seasons. Making him 29 yrs. old when he becomes a free agent and decreasing his value on the open market due to age. The NFL is set up for teams not players to win these types of battles so ultimately, RW11 would have no choice but to sign with the team that traded for him if he wants to maximize his earning potential in light of back to back franchise years.
