Roth was just released by Miami. Anyone know if it would be worth it to take a look?

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have waived OLB Matt Roth.

Roth earned the ire of the coaching staff and the front office after he sat out training camp with a groin injury despite gaining clearance from doctors. Set to hit free agency after the season, he wasn't going to return to the Dolphins regardless. Miami is deep at outside linebacker, so Roth was the odd man out the rest of the way.

Oh. my. god.

He is exactly what we need at the OLB position.

He plays the rush end position like Jay Ratliff plays the NT. Energy, 100% all out all the time, and he's a nasty SOB that's going to punch you in the mouth.

For more reasons than him being a former Hawkeye, I'd love it if we picked him up.

Yes. Another "take a look at a guy that was cut by a .500 ball club" thread.

TO be fair, KC tossed a guy who playes for Houston now and is having an outstanding year. We all know it doesnt take much to get into Parcells Doghouse, so that could be the reason. Other than that, this is a "a guy has been released and DALLAS needs him" thread.

So i agree 70 percent with you, 30 percent wants to know more about the guy and if we can sign him to the PS or bring him in for next year.

I didn't know anything about him. I just asked if it was worth taking a look.

The CBA is heading into an uncapped 2010 season unless an extension occurs.

Matt Roth will be a fifth year restricted free agent (and easy to keep) if the uncapped year comes about.

I guess Miami just didn't want him, a second round RFA tender is only around $1.5 million.

He's not eligible for the practice squad, at least I'm pretty sure he's not.

He'd be great to have as depth, as I'm sure he'd be a monster on special teams. The guy plays like a psycho.

I'm sure he's capable.

Willing?

No idea.

Matt Roth likely considers himself a starter, some players like that turn their noses up at getting killed on special teams.

I would be shocked if he's not willing to play special teams.

They don't even let Victor Butler play. This guy would do nothing, but make entirely too much money.

Roth has experience.

Not to mention I'm sure he's 10x better against the run right now than Butler

We would only be on the hook for his remaining base salary if we bite.

And Matt Roth has skins on the wall, he's never been a sack monster but there's no doubt he could come in and be a rotation player for us quickly.

But do we want to release Curtis Johnson to add Roth?

My answer?

Freak yes. He is the exact type of player we need more of. The guy's energy and intensity are contagious.

I have to agree, id take a flyer on him and use him for a few years than find the replacement, that way we can draft someone better than CJ. If he has a high motor and follows the locker room, worth bringing in and rotating into the lineup.

If we jettison Curtis Johnson for Matt Roth, we would still have Victor Butler and Brandon Williams (IR) filling out the depth chart behind the starters at outside linebacker next year.

I don't think we need to draft an OLB whatever we do or don't do at the spot this season.

We do need to keep an eye out for a SILB to eventually take over for Bradie James.
