Dude won the first playoff game of his career, and played perfect. Its amazing what happens when you surround a guy of his ability with talent around him to match. The truth is that if Stafford wasn't mired in the weeds of Detroit for so long, he would be on that Rodgers, Brady, Mahomes level.

He threw 17 passes in the game... which is about half as many as he was throwing per game in the regular season... mcvay called a very conservative game plan, which protected his qb... it was almost like Goff was back in LA...

I'm still in a wait and see mode when it comes to Stafford...

This forum has a surprising number of Stafford haters.
Its weird.

Every single coach in the league thinks the world of guy.
His teammates loved and love him

I wish, for his sake, he was afew years younger without those 12 years of beatings in Detroit, but the man can still play

No surprise that his 1st year out of Detroit he immediately gets a playoff “win”.

They wont be favored at Tampa, but it wouldn't shock if they won there too, because he's on a
a good TEAM.
Imagine that

Rodgers has said more than once that Stafford was Mahomes before there was a Mahomes

He’s just faced, the vast majority of his career, what Mahomes faced in the Super Bowl last year when his line was decimated.

Detroit has been a train wreck since the 90's. Stafford never had a chance to win there but the tools and ability have always been evident. With Dallas out, I am rooting for him to get a ring.

Cowboys fans get really defensive about our QB whenever another QB is talked about. As if its an affront to Romo/Prescott

Before Prescott took over, Stafford was at the top of my like of people to pursue when we moved on from Romo. Would have much rather traded 2 firsts for Stafford than draft a QB

Staffords arm may still be the best in the NFL. He also had a great track record for come from behind wins

Its arguable Stafford is the modern equivalent of Archie Manning. AN excellent QB who could have done so much more if he had not been with a train wreck of a franchise. By the time Archie escaped he was beaten up and in worse shape than Romo was. As bad as Romo had it for some years Manning had it much worse.

Not just great.
He has the most late 4th game-winning drives in the entire NFL while he's been in the league

Thats what makes the “choke” narrative by some here so comical.

Its backwards,

I snipped the rest because this is what caught my attention. People want to prove themselves right. Stafford can't win a playoff game. Romo or John Elway will never win a championship. You've heard it before. They'll say this despite countless examples of much worse quarterbacks winning championships. Had Aaron Rodgers not won in 2010, can you imagine the people that would just say he's trash in the playoffs? Most of these people don't understand the concept of a supporting cast. This is the NFL, not MLB.

Yep
And his only 1K rusher just barely had 1K

Im going to out on a limb and say no QB has ever had that few 1k rushers over that period

.

iirc Dan Marino never had a 1k yard rusher in his first dozen years...

but I would point out, that while Stafford had 1 thousand yard rusher (gonna trust what you said), he was playing with some talent on the offensive side of the ball... he had multiple 4000 + yard seasons in his detroit years, so he had to be throwing to someone... for starters Calvin Johnson & Brandon Pettigrew, with others mixed in, who aren't exactly no talent players... and i wager those backs of his eclipsed 1000 yards from scrimmage more than a few times over those years...

  • His offensive line were almost always near the bottom of the league
  • His defenses were almost always awful, barring 2-3 good years…esp 2014
  • His RBs were, on average very sub par…though Bush had a couple of good years
  • His WRs other than 1 superstar 5 years were, on average, subpar as well. But Wr was not the issue, it was all the rest.

They scratched their way to 3 road playoff games, and were expected to lose all three….which they did.

I get that he's not Brady, but he is and has always been very good

If you think they should've won their division several years and made Super Bowl runs, good for you

We'd have won the SB this year if we had Stafford.

The whole point of the post was to tell you Marino was in the same freaking spot vis a vis not having a 1000 yard rusher...

Pull your panties out of your crack and calm down.

I don't care about Matthew Stafford. Never have, never will. He's good. He's fine. Take your pick. Hes like a thousand other quarterbacks who threw for a boatload of yards and never won. His story has been told many times over in the annals of NFL history.
