Ugh. I was unavailable all day but finally managed to catch this on the radio and then TV from the middle of the 3rd quarter on. It was 66-64 Mavs at that point... and ALL downhill from there.

:eek::

Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. The Nuggets play a lot more tenaciously on defense than the Mavs are used to, but the amount of turnovers and overall sloppiness by the Mavs was uncharacteristic. Just check out the turnovers for normally flawless Jason Kidd and Dirk - they combined for 10 turnovers in this game. They combined for 11 in the ENTIRE SPURS SERIES!!! They nearly matched that in one game. Kidd had 8 of those by himself. The most turnovers he had in a game this year was 6. The last time he had 8 turnovers in a game was November 25, 2007 when he was still with the Nets (they still won the game, 102-100 over the pre-Gasol Lakers).

They were in this game until stupid passes, fumbled dribbles, and overall dumb plays cost them on offense and many times directly led to Denver fast break points.

Either Denver plays like this every game (all five or so, if it lasts that long) or Dallas let them get into their head with their physical play and played a really bad game down the stretch. Dallas NEEDS to win game two in order to give them a chance in this series.

Nuggetts are just to athletic for the Mavs.

This is just one of those teams that can get to the basket when ever they want to on us and we will have to settle for the tough jumpers.

We just don't match up at all with these guys.

That may very well be true, but the Mavs were winning midway through the 3rd quarter. As in, before their offense switched to the 3 Stooges Triangle Offense. That was one of the sloppiest Mavs games I've ever seen.

So far the biggest mismatch seems to be Nene vs. [Insert Mavs Center]. We didn't have an answer for him at all.

The Mavs this year have lost some ugly games (14+ point losses) but they're record for the next game is somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-1. We'll see what happens on Tuesday.

I just wish the Mavs had 1 impact player that never settled for jumpers.

Im lovin the way kidd is playing but thats the #1 thing I miss about Harris being here.

He loved to attack the basket.

I hate Chris Anderson too BTW. I wish someone would pimp slap that guy.

The Thuggets are way more physical than the Spurs were.

If the Mavs don't get tougher, this is gonna be a short series. I think Ryan Hollins should be playing more against Nene. At least he can move a little bit.

The worst part about it is they foul so much that the officials start giving them no calls because they are timid to blow the whistle on them so much.

It works too because every possesion means so much in the playoffs.

It's going to be tough to take one in Denver...I think they've won 14 in a row at home now. Of course, the Mavs have something like 18 of 19 at home, so they are dominant too. But the one loss was a 101-103 loss to ...Denver. No Howard, but still.....

That game yesterday was much closer than the final score, but the home team had a nice 4 minute spurt to break it open. They had great energy.

I disagree that the Mavs don't match up with Denver, but in Denver really nobody matches up with them right now. All the Nuggets need to do is win their home games and they advance.

im telling you guys, i dont think the mavs can win games one or two. i think they need to hold court the first four games and try to steal game 5, i think thats when they would be the most vulnerable. game 3 is the big key IMO

^^^

Can't discount that, but I still think for confidence-sake the Mavs need to split the first two games, otherwise I see the Nuggets going back to Denver 3-1 for Game 5.

I'm banking on the fact Jason Kidd had his worst game (turnover-wise) in 2 years (unlikely to happen again), Howard and Damp rolled their ankles, the fine on K-Mart should help with more closely officiated calls on him guarding Dirk, and the inevitable Game 2 adjustments help the Mavs take it.

good game so far, mavs are slowing down the pace to keep the game close. i dont know that they can hold on though i think the nuggets are gonna explode soon, its gonna come down to wether the mavs can stay close once that happens.

Dont follow much Dallas Basketball, but that 11 guy Barea??? is just painful to watch. His bad decisions and lack of defense makes me angry.

It'll be nice when I can catch the whole game. Just got back from a Flight of the Conchords concert (tickets ordered several months ago).

So far, they're keeping it close...
