Ugh. I was unavailable all day but finally managed to catch this on the radio and then TV from the middle of the 3rd quarter on. It was 66-64 Mavs at that point... and ALL downhill from there.
:
Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. The Nuggets play a lot more tenaciously on defense than the Mavs are used to, but the amount of turnovers and overall sloppiness by the Mavs was uncharacteristic. Just check out the turnovers for normally flawless Jason Kidd and Dirk - they combined for 10 turnovers in this game. They combined for 11 in the ENTIRE SPURS SERIES!!! They nearly matched that in one game. Kidd had 8 of those by himself. The most turnovers he had in a game this year was 6. The last time he had 8 turnovers in a game was November 25, 2007 when he was still with the Nets (they still won the game, 102-100 over the pre-Gasol Lakers).
They were in this game until stupid passes, fumbled dribbles, and overall dumb plays cost them on offense and many times directly led to Denver fast break points.
Either Denver plays like this every game (all five or so, if it lasts that long) or Dallas let them get into their head with their physical play and played a really bad game down the stretch. Dallas NEEDS to win game two in order to give them a chance in this series.
