I disagree. PJ is a legit 3 and D guy IMO. If they could've added AD then I could see that but they weren't gonna get a AD type without giving up Luka.

Damn that’s a good point. They still might be cashing those past trades….
PJ is a good player, but he is no where enough as a #3 to get you truly competitive against real championship caliber teams. They showed in the Finals last year how far away their roster really was from a true championship caliber team.

no way Cuban would have signed off on this if he was still majority owner.
cuban had no choice in the matter he knew it was coming that's why he sold
his majoriyy stake he wanted no part in this

the NBA gets what the NBA wants and right now that another superstar in the biggest NBA market

wilt. kareem, shaq all suspicious lower than value trades

They were the 2nd best team in the league last year lol. Let's not act like they are one of the worst. Celtics were a bad matchup. PJ as your 4th or 5th best player is perfectly fine. He play his role fine. If you need a better 3 and D guy then him then you won't find it. Without giving up compensation anyway.

Nice try.
Shaq signed as a free agent with Lakers. He also set the mark for highest contract.

A distant second place. That showed against Boston they didn't belong. Pj as a 4th or 5th, yes thats perfectly fine. We werw talking about him a s 3rd though. Thats not getting it done, especially when other teams made significant improvements

Several? More like over a hundred million.
You don't screw somebody by screwing yourself more. So, fine. The GM didn't want to anchor the future to Luka. But you only get AD and a first round pick 4 years from now? What a joke. His presser explaining the move was equally absurd. Mav fans are revolting. The Mavs have lost over 700K IG followers in less than a day. LA fans are celebrating. That says it all.

I don't blame them. I'm a Spurs fan so I'm just watching from afar.

Yeah I just disagree. I think ultimately the best teams win. Who was AD and Lebron's 3rd best player? Celtics just happened to have had one I don't think that its a requirement to have a #3 as good as KP or Jrue Holiday. And if it is then who's the Celtics 3rd best player this? Derrick White? Not necessarily head and shoulders better than PJ. PJ was limited offensively because. While their #3 isn't incredibly strong their #3, #4, and #5 is. Between Gafford, Lively, PJ and Klay....Klay your 6th best player? That's a solid team.

That 700k they lost weren't Mavs fans though.

You’re suggesting that Cuban sold the team…because the NBA was gonna force them to trade Luka to LA?

if so you’re zooming past the most obvious answer

Nico Harrison was Kobe’s player rep with Nike

Rob Pelinka was Kobe’s agent

I can’t say why ownership decided they wanted out, but clearly that existing relationship is why the deal got done once it was decided to do a deal

Same dynamic as to why a Kevin McHale traded KG to Danny Ainge and Boston

If the NBA wanted talent in LA that badly they never would have vetoed the Chris Paul/Lakers trade
