Its fun to talk about, but has no grounding in reality.

What is interesting is if there was maybe something behind the scenes with Luka that isnt out yet
It’s gonna come out. It may take some time. The Dennis Smith stuff came out years after he got traded. But people are searching high and low. Meanwhile Jimmy Butler still hasn’t been traded. Luka got dealt before Jimmy lol.

The only Ive seen is they are scared of his lifestyle and conditioning

The only thing I can assume is hidden injury. If not this is potentially the worst trade in NBA history.

You don't screw somebody by screwing yourself more. So, fine. The GM didn't want to anchor the future to Luka. But you only get AD and a first round pick 4 years from now? What a joke. His presser explaining the move was equally absurd. Mav fans are revolting. The Mavs have lost over 700K IG followers in less than a day. LA fans are celebrating. That says it all.
Agreed. The fact that this was some under the table secret trade makes it even more absurd.

If you field/pitch the trade freely (aka pitch it to multiple suitors at once) you're most likely getting multiple first rounders and some prospects.

This is absurd enough for the league to investigate. Not that they'll do anything because a 25 year old superstar to the Lakers is good for them but still

Something is fishy about this deal. They didn't even go to another team. Someone owes someone something or some sort of tampering. There's no way you just settle for AD and don't reach out to anyone else, no way.

You go to the finals last year so what do you do you trade one of the best players in the league the following year . It’s as if you don’t want to win . Don’t want to pay Doncic is what it comes down to . It’s as if in another Era you unloaded Nowitzki . At least ship him to an Eastern conf Team not the West .

You have to wonder if the league wasn't involved in trying to bring Luka to LA.

Doncic is a whiner. Doesn't play defense.
Constantly moans at officials.
Dallas can spend that massive amount of money on someone else.
i don't think the trade had nuthin tp do with that.
Dirk didn;t play defense either. But obviously He didn't have Dirk's professionalism in career conditioning shape.

- i think it boils down to Luka's lack of drive and professionalism towards his playing condition and coachability.
Luka has always wanted to do it his way. He didn't wanted to go the path of Charles Barkley mending himself into career shape.
I also tend ot believe this club had several upon several in-house meetings. - likely clashes -

- Luka has went thru two NBA head coaches that seemed to want to go quick tempo ball , but Luka has always insist on methodically walking the
ball slowly up court. - but his current conditioning can't do that.
i believe that got Pacers HC Rick Carlie fired in Dallas. ..and maybe Jason Kidd wasn't gonna have in Dallas .

- I also tend to believe if Mark Cuba was still in full majority owner, a Luka trade would have never happened ..but that's water under a bridge irrelevant now.

I agree with all you said.
Very accurate.
In this case the Mavs chose their GM and head coach instead of caving to Luka.

Wanna trade your generational superstar for some reason fine, but not getting a boatload of 1st round picks and a few more key assets on top of AD is a massive failure on Dallas' part no matter how you spin it. The fact they didn't shop him around the league is even more disturbing, some other team would have offered them a way better package than that. They better win a championship within the next few years because otherwise this will go down as one of the worst trades in NBA history.

I mean...

With only 5 days till the trade deadline I get it

I don't agree, but if it leaks then Luka can more or less block any trade by making it clear he won't resign. If he won't be super max eligible (which I don't get based off the rules) then the team doesn't have a ton of leverage. May have resulted in an even worse deal given he's injured and a free agent at the end of the year

The more I learn about it the more it sounds like Nico was bent on AD and ONLY AD. Every media outlet that covers the Mavs have all stated that it's no secret within the media and the organization that Nico loves AD. This would go along way towards explaining why Nico and Rob Pelinka kept to themselves. If the secret got out that Luka was being shopped, other teams with much better offers would've come forward and there would've been pressure on Nico to accept a better deal.

I mean…there’s a reason LA gave up Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, the 4th pick in the 2019 draft and like 3 other FRPs for Davis

New Orleans just messed up the return but AD is an amazing player and all Davis has done since being traded was make an All NBA first team, 2 All NBA first team defense and help LA win a title

The injury history would scare me off but Davis is a remarkable talent

I think its the injuries and age more than anything else. Luka is also a flashier player

You have to think of ticket buying and TV Eyes in this case both will be dramatically down . Case in point you lose to Cleve by 40 plus giving up 91 points in a half .

Pure garbage.

I can’t believe Adelson wants to exit Dallas but what other conclusion can you draw . And Cuban had to be on board . The NBA is ok with a league minus Dallas for the riches of Vegas because the Mavericks are not getting a new arena through the voters .

I’m in Dallas county but outside of city limits thank goodness , that city just hired a 450k city manager . If an arena came up for a county referendum they should have done it when the franchise was relevant not irrelevant and it still would have failed .

Nico has taken the crown from Jerry for the worst GM in Dallas.

Congrats! Not easily achievable, but he was truly All In for that reward.
