2004 was when the NFL changed the DB rules.. coincidentally than Manning started winning in the playoffs. Everybody’s numbers started going up and Jake Plummer threw for over 4000 yards with the Broncos for the first time ever eclipsing Elway, who didn’t do it once his whole career. The league started enforcing illegal contact more and the penalties for it started increasing, meaning DBd started back off way more.
In 2016, the total accepted penalties for PI and illegal contact were 5780 yards while 2003, it was 4594 yards.
Elway, Marino and Aikman were all better than Manning. The most similar analogy between Manning against a 90s era pass defense is his “record setting” Denver offense that got completely stifled in the SB by the LOB and Seattle. Complete annihilation, not just beating Denver..
Just stop this idiocy.. This era is even softer than the Manning post-2004 era..
