Every time I read about the Seattle O-line, I feel regret that we didn't grab him in the 2nd round in 2009. In retrospect, he looks like a lot better of a prospect than giving up that first round pick that year for Roy Williams.

I wish we had been able to pull the trigger and jump ahead to grab him instead of Seattle beating us to him. When he was off the board, it changed our draft and we traded out of the second, resulting in our worst draft of recent years.

Imagine Unger with our OL now? We'd be in amazing shape.

Roy W. gave us some laughs.

Well, let's say we hadn't traded for Roy Williams. Jerry and Stephen have said that we still would have gone after a WR in the first round if that had been the case. But if we had drafted Michael Oher...

It made have given us the push to really commit to our offensive line and grab Max Unger in the second.

Having done that, we would not have needed to draft Tyron Smith, and probably would have picked up JJ Watt. Tyron is probably going to be better than Oher, but we would have still been in good shape.

In the end, still a win.

No way Jerry drafts two offensive linemen in the first two rounds

I was entertaining the possibility because you brought up Oher, but chances are we would have drafted a WR in the first if had kept our first rounder, then Unger in the second.

There's no doubt Unger was who we wanted in the second. We traded out once he was off the board, and Jerry confirmed Unger was our guy.

My biggest regret is Roy OU when we could have drafted Ed Reed.

But then maybe we take JJ Watt and maybe we're more comfortable trading up for Unger.

So maybe we end up with bookends Oher and Free, Unger in the middle and JJ Watt.

So we look like this: Free Livings Unger Bern Oher

Our DL looks like this: Hatcher Ratliff JJ Watt

To me that looks like a Super Bowl contender in the trenches and that is without even considering the skill positions on offense, the LBs and the upgraded secondary.

People don't have any idea how punishing the RoyW trade was to this franchise. The only good is the downturn in the team caused us to move on from Wade who could never the HC of a great football team. He belongs as a DC.

I like that right guard Baltimore had from Iowa the other night. He made a couple nice blocks.

Jerry intimated on draft day that they likely would have traded up for Maclin. They also liked Nicks and hoped he would fall to the 2nd.

No offense to the OP, but this kind of thread is completely pointless. Even if a prospect developed well elsewhere, there is no guarantee that he would have developed in the same manner as a Cowboy.

The Unger thing continues to annoy me. We liked him and had a ton of picks in what experts on this board tell me projected as a terrible draft. In a terrible draft, why not move up and get the guy you like?

Or we could've had Oher and Smith and been set forever.

Fantasy -- we were still in the "you can get great OL talent in the 2nd and later" phase. No way that Wade would have pushed for OL and now way that Jerry would have looked that way

Unger started and played well since day one of his rookie year. He hasn't required any developing. He was plug and play and would have been for us as well.

Not only is Unger plug and play, he can also play all 5 OL positions. Jerry should have traded up.

I rue not getting Unger. Yes, I do.

Ah, another thread lamenting past draft mistakes.

I still lament the drafting of Rhondy Weston over Bubba McDowell in the 1989 draft. :(
