OK, this make me mad.

Time for Cowboys fans, no matter how they feels about Jason, to discuss the latest by that half-been, Donovan McNabb.

http://www.si.com/nfl/2014/07/10/donovan-mcnabb-jason-garrett-cowboys

Donovan, maybe one day you could be a assistant coach for a junior high team. maybe.
And remember, Garrett labor under a very bad GM.

Donovan suffers from the same affliction many of our own fans do - he has taken a myopic and simplistic view of the Head Coach position. He is comparing the team Wade inherited from Parcells to the team Garrett inherited from Wade and assuming that Garrett should have had more success than Wade. Trouble is, the teams are no where close to being the same. In 2007 this team was ready, but from there the team got old and many of the players were resting on their laurels. Shortly after Wade took over the discipline collapsed and along with that the drive for success. Many point to the 2009 season where they went 11-5, forgetting about the 2010 season where the Cowboys went 1 and 7 prior to Garrett taking over.

I've acknowledged it many times - Garrett has been far from perfect. I even agree he is the primary reason the Cowboys have lost several games, which in the end, cost them a chance in the playoffs. But, at this point, I believe with the coaches Garrett is now surrounded with, he would have to be a complete idiot to make the same mistakes. I'm not saying he's above it, but there is just way too much talent in that staff for the same issues to happen again.

I also acknowledge that there are positives that have resulted by him being coach. Rather or not it has anything to do with Garrett (which I suspect it does), Jerry has refrained from making the same stupid decisions that he has been known for in years past. Looking at this past offseason, I really like the mvoes that were made, so if Garrett can handle the in-game management duties better, this team could de very well. Here's hoping anyway...

Yes he does. Regardless of what you think of Garrett's credentials, no coach will be successful underneath the worst GM in football.

He would've easily had more success if not for some of his game day screw ups.

Garrett has not done his part when it matters.

Am I missing something? Other than the Marino part, what was wrong with what he said? Many of us are trying to figure out why Garrett is still the HC.

For a younger fan or one that follows the bouncing popularity contest with the media, that is a valid question.

During the pre season developments, it really is the time or place to start asking why a guillotine isn't the vehicle of choice.

That type of clamor is immediately following the season...as the rooting for one's team is the reason for a fan. Not doom and gloom. That is reserved for band wagon passengers and Monday Morning Quarterback's club.

That or reading skills to pick up on a full laundry list of reasons why not to give up the spirit and stay alive...already presented to here, and ignored.

Is this the same Donovan McNabb that laughed when the Cowboys gave Romo the big contract extension, saying he hasn't done anything to earn it?

McNabb needs to go home and do two things:
1. Count his Super Bowl rings.
2. Look up who Romo beat during his lone playoff win.

A dumb ash, half-been like McNabb half no right to belittle no one who is coaching or playing.

McNabb has always and forever will be overrated. Why his opinion can even be heard is beyond me....

?????? McNabb was spot on in his assessment expect for the Marino part. I am not sure why anyone would be upset when someone speaks the plain truth about the reality of the situation? Just because he was an Eagle??? I can't stand McNabb but I will not get mad at him for this. If Aikman wasn't friends with Garrett he would probably be saying the same thing.

Book smart is not street smart or football smart. Maybe Garrett is learning how to do all three. He's been around the block a few times, but his journey is not yet finished. It takes not only time, but the right team.

But, it seems that the whole team is changing, and that has to be on the Head Coach. (sorry...I have to give credit to Jerry also). lol

Someone on this board said it more eloquently than me, but Jerry and Garrett both can't be doing awful jobs at the same time if we're 8-8.

I love the logic used by some. Garrett is not a good coach , but let's keep him because the GM is worse. That does it for me .

Lets be real here fellas, if you took a poll the majority of Cowboy fans would have sent Opie packing already. Not just on this fan site, but on most Cowboy fan sites Garrett is widely unpopular. And as far as "nobody can be successful under a bad GM", lets note that every head coach except Campo and Garrett have made the playoffs under GM Jerry, so lets not act like it is an impossible task.

With all that being said, McNabb is still an idiot........................LOL

I grasp his point, and there is validity to it. However, the circumstances under which Garrett was brought in were different than the circumstances under which Phillips was brought it. Having acknowledged that difference, you can justify firing Garrett without even bringing Phillips into the discussion.

I don't think it is all that hard to separate expectations from performance. I have always somewhat felt Phillips got a raw deal, but after 2009 that roster had expectations better than 1-7. Meanwhile, with the season less than 2 months away national preseason outlets have us winning anywhere from 3-7 games, yet the resident Einsteins around here expect Garrett to go 14-2 to save his job. Even though our roster is closer to a 2-14 roster than a 14-2 one.
