You have to have the mindset to want to live your life the right way. It's obvious he hasn't to this point. He's never faced anything with consequences such as loss of livelihood and freedom.dbair1967;1454137 said:and that helped him before how exactly? he got into all kinds of trouble there too

If he's legitimately trying to change his environment, a classroom offers an alternative to all the other BS which has gotten him into this situation to begin with. It offers a bit more structure to what he's been doing the past two years. So if he's putting in a legit effort to be a good person going forward, then why not go back to school. Shoot, join church too, if that's gonna help.
You want to see guys making an effort to turn it around. Whether it works for him, who knows. But it's better than sitting around doing nothing.

College/University faculty generally don't care if you come to class - most won't notice if you are there. He'll have somewhere to be (if he chooses to go) about 12-15 hours a week. The rest of the time is free.
I'm skeptical that he's using this to support his reinstatement next year.
I just look at it as a point of focus... School does offer a bit of structure if you're focused on being successful and disciplined in your studies. 12-15 hours of class time, but then if he's diligent, then you add more time for homework, studying, and whatnot. And this is something that he can do while working out and doing whatever else he has to do as part of his suspension conditions.
