As an NFL fan over the years the great defensive players such as LT, Reggie White....ect overcome and dominate whatever scheme devised to take them out of the game doesn't work.....ever. Micha is a great player for sure but can schemed out of any game to be a non factor. Let him walk IMO. DC can't pay everyone. He's just not that level of greatness.
Dlaw has been so steady and lived up to the Star on his helmet. Twilight of career that DC just cant overpay for, Definitely hats off to you Mr. Lawrence. Ride off to the sunset as a Cowboy!!!

I’m wondering if Overshown becomes the leader of the defense in Parsons absence

I know it's a tiny sample size, but maybe the defense is better, or at least not worse, without the star book-ends.

Maybe they play with more discipline.

Maybe these other guys playing for their NFL lives have more hunger and fight in them.

And just maybe this defense is more coachable without the stars taking up too much mental space.

I know it's a crazy thought, and I know Fields left some "meat on the bone" yesterday (he missed a few throws to open receivers)...but the defense just looked more solid yesterday, with Overshown flying around and being more of the leader with Micah and D Law out. I like it. Let's see if they can play well next week too.
No.
No, dear soul, our D is not better with those two (albeit overrated) players.
Maybe your doubts about the two veterans are born of an experience of playing against a crappy Giants team (with dlaw/micah) and then playing a lousy Steelers team with these D-list players.
As overrated and pedestrian DLaw and Parsons are, they are appreciably better than our current emergency bodies at DE.

Me belief is tha Overshown is taking big steps to that leadership without daily pronunciations of the state of the world and the NFL as Micah would. Come to think of it, Overshown IS defencive leader! :)

The D played together as a UNIT, but I also think that they can do that with Parsons and DLaw in the lineup too.

Not sure why it hasn't been that way, but maybe the players and/or coaches can be rest assured that Parsons, DLaw, or anyone else DOES NOT have to be Superman to have the D play half decent.

JMHO
Yeah, I'm not stating why it was better, but it was better.

A big factor is the fact that we were able to stack the box because Fields is so one dimensional.

I can promise you one thing for sure he sets the bar extremely high when it comes to maximum effort on the field. It would be pretty rough sitting beside him in the film room if you didn't leave it all out there on the field. IMHO this is what the team has been needing more than anything.

I think they can get along without Lawrence to some degree. And they will have to I think next year. I think Kneeland was drafted to replace Lawrence.

No doubt the rest of the team stepped up with Lawrence and Micah out, but let's give it a few games before we make any judgements. The Lions have a real offensive line, and a real offense. If the abuse the defense I think this kind of chatter will cease.

Not really because we already know this is the type of OL that would make Micah quit.

Kendricks open your eyes hes the vet hes the green dot and hes playing better than most expected, that would be him anyway,., MP is not leader hes a superstar but not a role model in this game just yet.

if anyone believe we're a better team without micah parsons and Tank are not opening their eyes. all three rd games with them or without them ended up the same. Lessor talented teams played for sure. No way to tell this until we meet say Lions game and than SF get to see thise filin play the bog dogs not the muts..we beat Browns with MP and Tank than NY and WO them in PB, same conclusion D looks better against teams that didn't have more dynamic offense. Facts,,.

Remember DQs Ds last year beat up bully ball on puppys, git neck torn out by the pit bulls..

No. Absolutely not.

The Steelers offense is TERRIBLE. We like to talk about Dallas' lack of discipline, but Pitt had a bunch of pre-snap penalties and burned a couple of timeouts, at home, too.
Fields missed some big open throws too.

Maybe, just maybe, Parson is not a DE, and D. Law is past his prime?

Maybe.

And I don't think Parsons wants to move to LB, though that's likely his most effective position...then he could just blitz from a variety of locations. He could also chase down running plays and blowup screens. But he's so excited about sacks and the glory they bring that I think he'd be a reluctant full-time LBer.
