Maybe The Defense Is Better Without Law and Parsons?

This is likely Lawrence’s last season and I’ve been on the trade Micah train for awhile. Nothing against him but we are better off getting multiple firsts and not paying him $40m a year

Fans get too caught up in what players deserve. Then, they get mad when the players get more than what they think they deserve. Micah will get his market value, whatever that may be.
No he won't. If he gets highest paid non qb it's garbage. Same as Daks contract.

Parsons and DLaw are undisputed and look for stats. Esp Parsons

Defense is not about flash, it is about discipline, gap control, tackling

Parsons is the main culprit along with Diggs

I know it's a tiny sample size, but maybe the defense is better, or at least not worse, without the star book-ends.

Maybe they play with more discipline.

Maybe these other guys playing for their NFL lives have more hunger and fight in them.

And just maybe this defense is more coachable without the stars taking up too much mental space.

I know it's a crazy thought, and I know Fields left some "meat on the bone" yesterday (he missed a few throws to open receivers)...but the defense just looked more solid yesterday, with Overshown flying around and being more of the leader with Micah and D Law out. I like it. Let's see if they can play well next week too.
they play more disciplined. I think Parson and Lawrence think they have to carry the defense, so they get out of control sometimes. as opposed to carry their assignments and trust everybody else.

also, we played against two inept offenses, so then there is that

We’re not better off without DLaw and Parsons but we had a number of young players step up who were excited for the opportunity they were getting. We just need some of our veteran players to come out with the same intensity and enthusiasm. Complacency can set in with established players. Young players know this is their chance and they want to make the most of it.

Is the defense better without a player like D Flaw on a contract year? Nope. Is the defense better than a player like Parsons playing interested and at maximum effort? Nope. Is the defense better than D Flaw and Parsons on cruise control? Can't be any worse.

this is kinda were im at, would be nice to know what if anything they switched up scheme wise for this game...it might work even better when #11 and DLaw return..they played way better assignment wise last night.

We also played an offense that is terrible and a qb who is terrible
That's true but Pittsburgh only had 92 yards rushing vs us which was the lowest this year for them. And this was in Pittsburgh.

This is their run offense stat for the year.

Vs Yards
ATL 137
DEN 141
LAC 114
IND 122
DAL 92

This is second game in a row, we have done well against the run. Maybe Zim has figured something out.
BTW, the Giants who only rushed for 26 yards against us, rushed for 175 yards vs Seattle this week.

those numbers for the Squealers have dropped pretty much since the second game so I am no certain just how much we had to do with it. only 30 yards below their previous game and 22 yds below their worst previous game is not a lot

30 yards in rushing us a huge number.

30 yards in RUSHING is a noticeable difference. That would be the difference between being #1 in rush defense and #20 in rush defense last year.

We just got done playing the 2nd QB in a row who sucks, especially at passing. So, we stacked the box to stop the run. That's why we suddenly stopped the run for 2 consecutive games. Exact same thing happened last year, several times.

It certainly helps that we were playing back-to-back passing-challenged offenses. The No. 1 goal clearly had to be stopping the run. However, we failed to even slow down Baltimore and I'm sure we were focused on stopping the run in that game and making Jackson beat us with his arm. It's improvement, so I'll take it even if much tougher tests are coming.

The front 7 seemed to have played their gaps and assignments very well! Parsons and Tank take notes!

Good point.
