Mayfield feels disrespected

I think they are. They seem to be clearly prioritizing a complete rebuild. I have no problem with that part of it. I also agree with perhaps the league as a whole is trying to reset the QB market. Yeah, I think it got out of hand particularly for the non elite players.

I still go back to the last paragraph of post 105 though. I don't see any way to bridge the gap between what some believe Baker is worth & what the market is & has been for several years. I mean we are paying other positions more than what ya'll are proposing we pay a veteran starting QB. Based on this discussion perhaps we should create a poll for what QB salaries should be.
The rising cost of quality edge rushers, wide receivers, and now defensive tackles is resetting the quarterback market. There’s only so much money left.

I am on board with a reset but there is only one most important position in sports. Whatever that number should be, every other position has to be significantly less.

I’m not sure why you are attacking me over a difference in opinion. Dak seems to wilt consistently in big games.

Dak stat pads against little sisters of the poor and then wilts when the big games come. Then when the game is out of reach Dak stats padding stats again.

Dak is a top 1/2 of the league QB but so far he has not shown the ability to win when it counts. If Mayfield had played for the Cowboys his entire career he would probably have a SB by now.

I’m not going to attack you personally. That’s not really my style.

Usually when a person attacks a poster on this website instead of their position on something it’s an indication that they don’t have a lot of confidence in the position they themselves are taking.

I respect your opinion but I never attacked you.

Romo was replaced by nature. Not by Jerry.

And you did not understand the topic. The poster didnt say Dak cant be replaced. The poster said Jerry wont do it.
In my opinion that's only partially true. Back in 2016 I sided with the camp that felt you stick with the hot hand. Romo already had an extensive injury history before 2016 and I remember being frustrated by Jerry's unwillingness to draft potential replacements. Some may say that was Dak, but I feel Dak was only a camp body who wasn't brought in as an expected replacement for Romo. Dak ended up having a good rookie season, but don't forget he was aided tremendously by the outstanding play at RB by Elliott. A stud RB having an MVP season will always help the QB look better.

Where Jerry played a part in Romo being replaced - Romo was the starter and had earned that spot. With that being said, when he was healthy enough to return he should have been allowed to move back into the QB1 spot. In my opinion, it was Jerry who blocked that move. Garrett was a massive puppet who followed Jerry's orders, so all signs point to Jerry being the culprit who ended Romo's career, with a bit of assistance from mother nature, of course.

I think I'm the one who said Jerry won't do it, and I still feel that way. Look at who Jerry has brought in at QB over the past 10 years, has a single one of the screamed "OMG! This guy could replace Dak"? None of them have. It's classic Jerry, and Jerry has been doing this since half way through Romo's career. Jerry simply doesn't want any competition at QB - at least not until he's forced into a corner by something like a broken back.

I know what he said lol. I’m saying Jerry would do it he did it with Romo. Had nothing to do with nature. Romo was healthy enough to come back it wasn’t season ending.

Mind you though Dak wasn’t intended to replace Romo. Dak represented the Stephen McGee, Trey Lance, Joe Milton type pick….they drafted him with a 4th round comp pick after Charles Tapper. They just got lucky he ended up being NFL ready.

Jerry will never draft his replacement in the first round because. They consistently need those picks to hit because they don’t use free agency to fix holes.

If Mayfield played for the Cowboys they would have a sb by now? Based on what? He’s had better teams and weaker divisions and can’t

I understand the reluctance to risk a 1st round pick on a QB. But Jerry of all people should know that it could also end up being the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The last time Dallas had the #1 overall pick (and also the last time he used a 1st on a QB, I think) he ended up with Aikman, and every Cowboys fan knows how that turned out.

Who's fault is it that Jerry needs to consistently hit on those picks? The prosecution rests...

Swap Dak and Baker's teams and career and I think you would see similar results. However, swap Dak with Mahomes and KC doesn't have the success they have had. Dak simply isn't that level of a playmaker or difference maker. That's not to say Mahomes brings instant success to Dallas. Jerry is too much of a hindrance.

Romo was done. He was an thump from the waterboy away from another seasonending injury.

Nature did that to him. And maybe his unprofessional approach preparing his body for the sport of football.

Jerry just accepted the consequences that were evident.
