To Mayock's credit, he really is more of a hands on evaluator who prefers actual game performance to Underwear Olympics. But as far as QBs go, he's always been very adamant that you really should see the throw live.
He did play in the NFL a little while and does (usually) prefer substance over style.

At least he's being honest about his confusion over Bridgewater.

But if there was ever a position in college where stats can be deceiving, it is QB.

Look at the vast majority of stats leaders in college over the years and a huge majority of them fail miserably at the pro level.

I do think this may be an overreaction on Bridgewater though.

Looking at tape has nothing to do with looking at stats. Watching tape gives you and idea of how well a QB plays under duress, how well he moves in pads, how well he throws in pads, how well he reads a defense, how well he anticipates blitzes, will he stand in the pocket and get hit, is he tough, is he competitive. Bridgewater is every one of these things.

Geno had horrible poise in the pocket, had attitude issues, couldn't get along with coaches or players, had poor accuracy on the move and couldn't read a defense (on tape). His coaches at WVU wanted him to run more and get outside the pocket more to overcome his inability to read the defense and he refused to do it.

Jumungus was picked high because of his pro day. Best evidence I can see that pro days are all but worthless. By the way Mayock was very high on Jumungus and numerous other QB busts so why anyone would think he knows squat is a mystery

Are you saying that you question Mayock's ability to accurately judge QB talent? I couldn't tell by the ambiguous wording of the post. ;)

He did it on purpose to play for a better team..

this is the only conclusion I can come to.

Too many top draft pick QB's have their careers wasted at horrible clubs. Why would a QB or agent put themselves in that position?

Only one way to fix that...drop your draft stock. While you might take a pay cut for the first 4 years...you'll be on a better built team and rake in the dough on your second contract.

I think he was joking.

No player, ever, wants to kill their draft prospects on purpose.
1) it could cost them many millions with no guarantee of a 2nd contract due to injury or performance
2) most of the greats want to play right away or very soon. Going to a team early in the draft who really needs a QB is how that is almost guaranteed to happen
3) Not all of the top teams have terrible talent. One example...Add a decent QB (and a few other parts) to Houston and they could be good.

hey, but if somehow fell to us in the 2nd, that would be amazing.

Bridgewater in the second is a steal.
He's not a top five player, but I don't think he gets out of the teens personally. Someone will jump up to get him.

Someone please tell why they think Teddy Bridgewater will be better than Geno Smith.

Not provoking, just asking....because right now I tend to think of them in the same tier.

Bridgewater has a brain.

Houston, Jacksonville or Cleveland are gonna feel pretty smart and lucky if the grab one of fairly safe franchise players (Robinson, Clowney , Watkins, or Mack) at pick 3, then end up with Bridgewater at the top of the 2nd.

I think Cleveland takes Watkins with there 1st pick then gets Bridewater with there 2nd pick in the 1st round.

If I recall correctly, he was impressed with Tebow's workout.
