Mayock's Mock

Those are false rumors started by people like Mayock. He got a 4/5 at the combine medical check and that was for a sprained knee. He had no issues with the neck once he had treatment for it. It's a common and minor football injury.

Okay. Seems you have more Insight than most of others around. We shall see when he enters the league. Time will tell if he does have a neck injury

Remember that this isn't what he would do, it's a prediction
I think the problem with Mayock’s mock drafts is exactly the opposite.

I think he picks players based solely on who he feels is the best player and who he thinks fits best with any particular team. I honestly don’t think he does any homework or research on info coming out of the teams themselves.

The Cowboys are a perfect example. They are usually very transparent leading up to the draft. If the draft fell the way he said it would, our front office would have Leighton Vander Esche, D.J. Moore, Rashaan Evans, and James Daniels (possibly even Harold Landry) ahead of Sutton on their board.

Yes, they spent time with Sutton, but he is a Round 2 prospect. But all MM sees is that Sutton is the receiver most like Dez, and so the lazy conclusion is to assign Courtland Sutton to Dallas.

I am at a loss to understand why Mayock is heralded as such a Draft Guru at NFL Network when he seems to do so little work attempting to find out the inside scoop on what the teams are actually coveting in Round 1.

Isn't that all a mock draft is or supposed to be. It isn't supposed to be a pet cat or a pipe dream, it is a prediction of what they think the team will do?
Yes. What they think the team will do and not what they would do
So Sutton is who he thinks Dallas would pick given that situation, even though he personally rates other WRs higher.
In this case, Dallas has paid a lot of special attention to Sutton.

I hope it doesn't go this way though

Me and you both.

Your right he did, he had 141 tackles in 2017. The year before he had 27 tackles. The year before he had 20.
1 year of great production. I don't run the Cowboys but I sure as hell would rather spend a 1st round pick on someone who has a better track record and not so much bust potential.

If your criteria for “bust potential” is anyone that had outstanding numbers the only year he started, then I guess there are a ton of really good NFL players that came into the League with bust potential written all over them in your mind.

The guy could be the next "Urlacher", I just don't see it worth risking when he could end up being a Bobby Carpenter.

If Dallas is so dead set on a LB, go sign Bowmen. Dude is a beast and it fills a hole. There is a lot more players to love than LVE imo.

I think they value his actual analysis of the players.

Even he hates doing mock drafts---he does only one per year.

HOWEVER

Mke Mayock is the 5th most accurate mock drafter in the country over the last 5 years.

His job is not to guess what teams are doing but to give assessment on how good a player is. Which is way more important

Rick Gossilin used to win all the mock draft contests, but it didn't men he knew more (or even much) about football...just tha he had scoop on who was going were for one round in the draft.

A guy named Jason Boris is the best at doing mock drafts in the country over the last 6 years.

Besides being white and comparable size wise, what makes you think LVE doesn’t like to hit people hard (Carpenter)?
LVE played HS football in a town in Idaho so small that they played in a 7 on 7 Conference.
He walked onto BSU and had to earn everything he got. He’s never been given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to playing-time/football.
I keep hearing Bobby Carpenter (not just from you) from people that haven’t followed him and don’t know where he’s come from.
There’s no Bobby Carpenter genes in LVE’s DNA

OK. I see your point. But even in that context, I’m not really sure how accurate he is at analyzing skill sets and ranking players.

One phrase that comes to mind whenever I hear him speak: “often wrong, never in doubt.”

Leighton is the same type of player Byron Jones is. If we draft him, I hope I'm wrong.

He's the 5th most accurate in the nation over the last 5 years.

But I think his 1st round mock last year was poor.

Sutton's size and hands are intriguing and Dallas does seem obsessed with big outside WRs but I am hoping they go in a different direction at 19.

Every team is obsessed with big outside WRs.

I hope your are right. Just because you seem to be a homer for him doesn't mean we all should be.

I get your point but I worry. I am a homer for Vea and Derwin but the next guy may not be. We all have our opinions and mine is LVE has a higher chance from what I have seen and read that I don't love the idea of him at 19. I think the 19th pick would be better suited for someone else.

Again he may be awesome in the NFL. Myself, you, everyone else on this forum and the world of football has to guess at every single player to wonder if they are capable of making the NFL leap.

Mayock over the last 5 years or so has been the best in the business w his mock drafts
