Mayowa Benched

Welcome back to the offseason. Plenty of us knew the pass rush was in trouble and that this guy wasn't the answer. But, as usual, were told again and again that both the pass rush and Mayowa would be good enough.

But they're not.

Hopefully they can cobble something together from the spares they do have, but it's obvious that pass rush needs to be priority #1 and #2 for the offseason. I just hope it doesn't cost us something special this year.

I don't see anything in that link where you predicted McClain would be our best DT or beat out Thornton.

ScipioCowboy said that McClain couldn't beat out Thornton because he couldn't beat out Hayden. I pushed back against that.

Was puzzled by both signings, though I gave the FO leeway given some of their earlier finds.

They need to stop getting cute on the defensive line.

I don't think they got cute I just think they did what they could. I twas either take a shot on the Mayowa's of the world or spend 85 million on the Olivier Vernon's of the world. It wasn't much out there to begin with.

They are 8-1. Hard to argue it not being "good enough".

They will once again go into the offseason and have to settle for a unknown guy or a 2nd or 3rd tier guy because teams aren't letting elite pass rushers go. Never mind that there's not very many to choose from.

Could have also picked up Dwight Freeney who at least has 3 sacks on the year

3 sacks in limited snaps. We don't need someone in limited snaps. We need a 3 down guy on that line. We need consistent pressure. Freeney is not getting consistent pressure. I don't understand the fascination with the aging veteran but I really hope next season a younger guy is out there with either potential or skins on the wall.

Can't even cut him this offseason. The cap savings is only $400K and there is a $2.2MM dead money hit.
Of course you can cut him........money saved is money saved......whether its 400k or 4m

If you save money by cutting then there is no problem.......Dead Money is never a factor in keeping someone.....it is a sunk cost either way

Actually we could use a pass rush specialist.

I don't get the fascination people have with essentially poo pooing players that are over 30 that can/could have helped the team. Great teams are often a mix of young players and some key vets. But for some of you, every time someone mentions a player that's not 27 or younger, we get these diatribes about how awful it is to have aging players. My favorite argument was that an older DE was going to take away from the development of the younger guys.

LOL.
