I would hope the scouting department did their due diligence in him and is not only aware of those stats but discussed that with his coaches.

However, I am not sure they did that with Charleton.

Seeing as Dallas hasn’t been to the Super Bowl in 20+ years I think at least getting there sounds like a nice step forwards.

And for reference, the top 5 teams in run stop win rate didn’t make the playoffs.
Once again just making the playoffs is the mentality of a overall loser who settles for good enough.

AND what you refuse to understand is that a defense needs balance; not all stop the run or stop the pass. The boys have concentrated too much on the pass and the run has cost them.
FINALLY they are taking steps to redress that WEAKNESS.

I bet a lot of teams in the NFL would be happy with progressing the amount of wins they get each year with the ultimate goal being the Super Bowl. If the Texans go 500 next year I wouldn’t consider them losers bc they didn’t win the Super Bowl. Good season and a step in the right direction.

I fully understand a defense needs balance but pass rushing / pass defense is more important than run defense.

Down the stretch our run D was fine after we got away from all the stunts. Completely bottled up playoff caliber teams against TN, Philly, TB and SF.

Rookie contracts last a lot longer than team needs do.

In 2020, our need at DE was absolutely dire. Our leading sackers in 2019 were Robert Quinn (gone), DLaw, and freaking Jourdan Lewis. We had to dig up the alcohol embalmed corpse of Aldon Smith to start for us. We still passed up DE and picked CeeDee anyway.

Now 4 years and seemingly a lifetime of football later. Our cup runs over at DE, CeeDee is playing like a top 10 WR, and the DE we "needed" is a huge bust riding the bench. If you are looking at value provided over a rookie contract, the decision to pick CeeDee was literally a $100M boon for the Cowboys.

If you need a position filled, pay a free agent vet. For the draft, you should be looking to steal back money from the cap over the life of a cost-controlled rookie deal. It's inherently a more long term approach... using it like a short term Band-Aid is missing its value.

This.

On a positive, the moves we made in FA this year help alleviate my disappointment in the draft. But then after those moves we still drafted for need lol.

This team never takes a DT and we‘ve certainly been in need for one in like forever. They took a guy that possesses elite traits. Smith can be as good as he wants to be.

In the NFL today you must strike quickly. What team will still be together four years later?

This is a formula for just good enough but never a champion.
