It's shameful how so many people seem compelled to berate a player when he's down.

Let's give Mazi & Lance a chance to get going, before continuing the harsh comments.

One should understand that it only adds to the difficulty when the criticism is constant.
Amen brother. Sad comment on todays society.

  • The Maz: You know what? Considering Mazi Smith is practicing for the first time since the end of last season (offseason shoulder surgery) and for the first times in pads Tuesday and Wednesday, thought their 2023 first-round draft choice performed admirably at nose tackle with the first-team defense. Saw one play where he held up against a first-team offensive line double-team on a running play and then slid off to his right to stop the running back in his tracks.

I know it's Spagnola, but I thought this thread could use a little positive news about Mazi. Got to have more plays like the one Spags saw.

I'm curious.. why do you feel so sorry/empathetic for guys like Mazi? He made more $$ than most Americans working 20+ years just by being drafted. I don't feel sorry for any of them that wash out, quite frankly...mainly because I respect the work of the "common" man.. I guess I am just a "salt of the earth" type guy. Curious as to why you think their plight is SO honorable? Is it because they wear the Star?

Playing football at that level is extremely hard both physically and mentally. They’ve put in years of hard work supported by their families to get to this level. And don’t forget, these guys are in their early 20’s. I tend to want to give them a legitimate chance to develop into an NFL player. For some, it happens in year 1. In others, it happens in year 3 or 4. Mazi’s in his 2nd year and his 2nd DC. He deserves a chance to develop. I guess I’m just a “salt of the earth” type guy.

I get the hole in the defense is DT and they tried to address that. There’s also been that rule for years you don’t spend a high draft pick on a DT. If it’s an Aaron Donald type guy then I see it, but Mazi wasn’t close to that level. They’ve had great luck with DTs in late rounds. I really don’t get the pick still. Maybe it was just a weak draft that year. Then they took Schoonmaker. Just a bad draft.

Way too early to judge either Mazi or Schoonmaker are you kidding me?

I dont want to take the bait...but I will...

DT seems to be something posters on here have complained about for years.

I assume you are saying they have done well value wise by getting 'starting passable' DT's late....but those players, though starters, have been complained as a hole on defense for years now.

I agree that Mazi may not have had value in early rounds...but Dallas seemed to need to swing at the position at some point. The anger from fans was intense at that position.

Maybe the Cowboys should have looked to fill from FA instead of a high pick.

Point I am trying to make is....even those late round picks at DT didnt seem to be good enough for the fans. Unless this is a Dak situation and you think our DT's have been sufficient.

Hate to break it to the ”too early to judge crowd” but established. NFL players can tell if a guy is going to make it within a few minutes of practice. The Kelce brothers spoke about it on their podcast both stated you can tell by the way a guy moves whether he’s someone that can last. Id bet good money you get a coach to talk honestly and they’ll say the weight loss was a reaction to seeing how poorly Mazi got off the ball.

Tubby wants to roll in here as a first round pick, pocket a pile of cash, stink up the joint then cry himself to sleep on his huge pillow. I say good day to you sir.

Once Broadass makes his mind up about a player he never changes it.

This guy said he doesn’t even like football. He jsut likes to be violent and hit ppl. What a joke!!!!!!

That’s why I’m not listening to anything our players say this year. It’s always sounds good but looks different. But they always have something to say. Jsut go out there and work your ***** off. . 25 years as a fan and I didn’t see the Super Bowl but this season is just so uninspiring to me. They’re lucky I love football but jsut like last year I will not raise my antennas until something good happens in late January. The only thing I got excited for last season was Blands record. Otherwise I sat on my damn couch recliner like my name was Al Bundy. Nothin the cowboys did got a rise out of me. Not the Detroit ending. Not the not the bad losses to Philly or San Fran. Nothin. I’m emotionally unavailable to this team until they show something
Don’t listen to the interview the Ticket did with Tyrus Wheat. I thought it was a spoof interview. He sounds like an idiot. He didn’t know who Troy Aikman was.

They picked him because the draft was used to support the All-In and went for need (supported by the 2nd Rd pick of a blocking-TE to aid the deficiencies in the running game).
Nobody will confirm it, as they'd get castigated for doing 'another Charlton'
