Oh, no! Not another Mazi Smith thread, right?

But there has been some chatter on Twitter/X about Mazi Smith losing 30 lbs and playing closer to 290 now than the 330 he supposedly weighed when he was drafted. Has anyone heard anything about this? It is not coming from ordinary fans either. It is coming from guys who regularly cover the Cowboys. The claim is the Cowboys wanted Mazi's weight down to make him quicker.

I said a while ago that Mazi is listed at about the same size as Hankins, but standing next to Hankins Mazi looks much smaller. The Cowboys website has Hankins listed at 6'2" 320 lbs. and Mazi is listed at 6'3" 337. To me Hankins looks like he is closer to 350.

I am confused by this unless they are trying to salvage him somehow.

Even Trysten Hill was not this bad his rookie season.

First of all you have it backwards they never listed mazy that heavy that would be Carl Davis is listed heavier than Mazi and hankins. Hankins is listed at 320 online sure he gains some but its all inaccurate. Go ask the player to watch him step on scale if not its rumor but hes never been a fatty type, hes built more like Tyron, big but built like a brick..

chatter =rumor, not buying it buts hes never been 337 always been around 325-327.so its possible he lost weight in camp and playing and hes 320 but that not unheard of..

Why is any of you not understand the differences between a defensive end a three tech and a one tech especially one that doesn't have position flex mazzy is a pure nose tackle he will not be like hill he'll have better numbers because he played osas position you know OSA that's actual three tech more like gholdston /who can be a three tech and a defensive end, or Gally whose true 3t, these guys do not put up big numbers

why do you keep having me have to repeat this Mazi's having about the same rookie year as the 13th overall pick Jordan Davis the nose tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles head they don't put up big numbers at the nose tackle position show me all the big numbers hankins has put up and he's been playing how many years?? So why don't you do some research go check out Jordan davis's rookie year and you're gonna find out he played in 13 games in his production wasn't any better and at least we picked our guy at 27

some of y'all come in here to talk football and somehow have inaccurate information because you don't even know what positions they play

He definitely looks smaller. He is also getting washed out of plays regularly, particularly with side to side motion. For all the talk about his strength in the offseason it sure doesn't show during games. I've seen him try to bull rush people regularly. It seems to be his only move. NFL linemen seem to laugh it off.

Ya I made a thread about this a few days ago and it got deleted for some reason.

He lost 40 lbs, down to 293lbs. This came from Brian Broadus on Cowboys Break and they talked about it for at least 5 minutes. Came from someone in the organization apparently.

And you actually believe this lol
he doesn't understand the difference between a pure nose tackle and a three tech, hill may have been a little bit better that's because he's in a different position that you can actually watch and look at his stats he does not understand what a actual pure nose tackle does or doesn't do, apparently..

He's never been listed at that weight so everybody's wrong coming out of college he was listed at 325 he did not gain weight you usually lose weight in training camp in practice and then getting playing time so he didn't lose 40 lbs it's possible he lost 20 if you believe what you hear there he was never that heavy...EVER!

I realize what his college stats say but ever since he was at the combine man here at the Dallas Cowboys complex he's always weighed 327 or under

his combine 323

Taco, Mazi, and Schoon. Stay away from high picks on Michigan players. It's not working out for the Cowboys.
well I don't think you need to throw either Mazi or Schoon especially under the bus yet. Mazi maybe as he has given more opportunity but shown little, but Schoon - he has shown when he gets the opportunity. He is a blocker as of right now, and from what i gather he is very good at it. Problem is everyone looks at TE and grades them on their contributions in the pass catching department. Well he was brought here as mainly a blocker and Dallas uses him as that - a blocker. He has caught the ball just fine the few times they send him out, but Cowboys coaching staff will use #87 first and foremost.

He is getting blown out of the hole by a double team very easily and we have bell who weighs 215 behind him

Heck, if this is the case then I'd be satisfied with a Maliek Collins type contribution. That's who he reminds me of anyway kinda.
But not quite as good.

Why would they draft a 330 lb NT and then ask him to lose all that weight? Is this a Quinn thing? If so it is the stupidest idea ever.
