That Tom Brady kid was not bad, Charles Woodson was pretty decent…these 2 weren’t great but they were serviceable…
OMG. I'm not talking about 25 years ago.

And Brady was an afterthought in the 6th round. I'm talking about high picks. Michigan produces almost nothing.

Broadus is sometimes badly wrong; but he does have contacts still in the organization so to claim there is no evidence of a big weight loss is stupid.

Now WHY is another matter

He also looks smaller to me from camp

So I guess we wait for someone to give us more information

You should never use a first rd pick on someone you want to change fundamentally; or one that needs fundamental change in his game. Too much risk

Exactly. If the Cowboys knew Ferguson was going to be this good maybe they wouldn't have picked Schoonmaker. Then again Dalton Schultz did nothing here for over two years before emerging.

I know fans want instant impact from your early picks but the Cowboys' roster really didn't have open starting spots going into the draft in the first place.
Correct. If the Cowboys had drafted the OG he would be sitting on the bench most of the time too. He would be a backup to Tyler and Zack. I think they need to integrate Schoonmaker into the offense a bit more, but with Ferguson on the team he is not ever going to be a top TE in the league. Look at Martellus Bennett. He sat behind Witten and did nothing - and complained about it. He went to another team and made all-pro. I am not suggesting Schoonmaker will be an all-pro, but he still might be a good TE who is just hampered because Ferguson is better. The one thing Schoonmaker needs to understand is the Cowboys need him to be a good blocker in the running game. He can make himself valuable by doing that for a year or two.

If Sam LaPorta was playing on a team with an established TE he wouldn't be having the year he is having either. I can't blame Schoonmaker because Dallas drafted him. I can't blame Dallas for drafting him because they lost Schultz and Fergie was coming off his rookie season.

This actually makes a lot of sense. Everytime they pan in on Mazi during the games I question his advertised weight of 320-325. He looks smaller than Neville Gallimore and the team lists Gallimore at 302.

It’s cute how a legit OP topic turns into a “Michigan sucks” thing but ok.

Unless Mazi is sick, why would he be losing weight so rapidly? He has plenty of money to eat up, much more so than at Michigan, you’d think lol.

He may need that first full NFL off-season program. Wouldn’t exactly shock me if a mid 20s pick in a not very deep draft took until year two to get it. Jets fans wanted Quinnen Williams cut after year one. I’m not kidding.

Problem is, we needed a 1-tech NOW, and why the “secret sauce” leaves us short annually.

First year DL rarely have a good year. Plenty of time for him.

They will get him on NFL “supplements” this offseason and get him into much better shape and muscle mass. He could easily put on 20 lbs of pure muscle.

Let’s see where he is in August.

Why would they draft a 330 lb NT and then ask him to lose all that weight? Is this a Quinn thing? If so it is the stupidest idea ever.
Ditto here

- Makes no sense to ask a guy that you've drafted high/ invested in his size, mass and bulk to be a 1 tech run stuffer and
now have him at that Gholston/Gallimore size weight around 300 lbs.

- It's very concerning, because that strongly suggests to me that they have become so very concerned
(discouraged?) about Mazi's notoriously very slow get off that they feel so compelled to trying to gain him
some quickness by asking him to lose so much weight to do so.

- That means technique wise, they couldn't help him there. Now they are trying to physically wise help with the way of
lost weight to gain quickness.

- This is how I wondered if ex-DT coach Leon Lett coaching could've helped Mazi as Lett's specialty
was 1st step get off snap-quickness and shedding blocks quickly.
Once Mazi gets stuck on blocks at the ball-snap and they get their hands into him quickly, he's done for cuz
he has major issues getting off blocks.

- Maybe in offseason, club could assign such a DT specialty coach and further work with Mazi's reaction timing,
techniques, stance, and leverage angles - without forcing him to lose weight.

Players are held accountable to fines by the club, if they do not meet/keep a specific assigned weight.
For Mazi to be losing weight during the season, suggests to me that Mazi was forced to lose weight per coaches/trainers.

And like several others, i can only imagine this was an effort to gain more get off quickness for Mazi than anything else.

Did marinelli come back to.suggest something so dumb. Did they think he could be as good of a run defender weighing 30 lbs less?

Man this coaching staff is so dumb

Outside of Hutchinson, U Michigan picks tend to be busts for sure.
True for most part. But they still had some really good ones. Besides the GOAT Pick of all Time with Tom Brady in the 6th.

Frank Clark, Graham Glasgow, Taylor Lewan, Cesar Ruiz, Nico Collins, Jake Moody for example.

Some good points/questions. First, I am just trying to confirm the talk is true. Did Mazi really lose 40 lbs or is it just Bryan Broaddus talking out his rear cavity again?

If they asked him to lower his weight to improve his quickness, then I am even more disturbed by this report because you can see his slow get off is not physical. It is a slow reaction to the snap. Mazi losing weight will just make his slow get off even more of a problem because he will get bullied before he isupright.
