McCarthy: "But this team is about defense. Let’s make no bones about it."

And? The defense is the strength of the team, only they sucked last week and until they correct the trash execution, expect more of the same vs. playoff caliber teams.
Is the season over? No. Not even halfway through this season.

yeah..but its HIM falling on the sword. This team isn't near good enuff defensively 2 live and die by it. He knows it.
It's close. They were hanging in there Sunday, but they desperately needed some sustained drives and point support from the offense.

There will always be games where you just have to score with them. Romo's offenses could do that often. Many can.

Sometimes it's just going to take 30+ points regardless of how good your defense is. You gotta play the game that's on the field that day.

yeah the offense barely did anymore than they did in the playoffs, defense has no excuse they shouldve predicted that. Not like the interceptions came till after they gave up 21+ points before the freakin half

Yeah I honestly don't expect them to be good enough to overcome a crap offense against one of the league best offenses, but we need to be clear. They weren't good from the opening whistle.

When we got gouged by the cards I knew this was coming. The free for all on qbs came to an end to maintain run discipline. Whatever we saw the first few weeks was an illusion. So was Sunday night to an extent. The truth lies in the middle.

We have a solid defense, but they are not dominant. If we can't get to the qb without selling out the defense is not elite.

With the way the league is constructed we may never see another dominant type of defense.

The 3rd down stop were they flagged Dono and Kearse was a perfect example. Taunting is one thing, but the hit that prevented the catch would've been called regardless. What else do you do? Let him catch it?

Almost sounds like it’s a power struggle between McCarthy and Quinn. Mike might be afraid that Quinn will be next to get his job. I’ve never heard an offensive coach claim that the “defense is our strength”….especially one that’s paying their QB the way the Cowboys are
You have now. MM is correct by the way and everybody knows this already.

i dont even know if we even have a solid defense anymore.
Giants have no oline and no weapons, Jets were still in shell shock from rodgers and Zach wilson was well, zach wilson (although he is playing better now), and the patriots who just look abysmal.

Really hoping its just some fluke, losing Diggs should not have derailed us this bad.

Our offense is averaging 1.8 TD's a game. Take away the ones that were off turnovers and it's even worse than that. So yeah, guess the defense is on the hook.

the thing that sucks is with those bang bang type of plays is when youre in that situation where the player is falling or moving down but you cant adjust in time youre probably gonna hit the head, go too low and they prob break a tackle.
Crazy how many broken tackles we see now and its almost like most defenders play scared of getting flagged, especially on QB runs.

i think we all knew the offense was gonna be terrible and that the defense needed to step up to keep the game competitive, however two games so far theyve gotten blown out.
3 n outs hurt no doubt, but they shouldnt be getting gassed out that fast not playing the run and giving receivers 10 yard cushions

Is he blaming Quinn?

This team lost Diggs and now LVE, two key players on the defense. Seems to me this team has to be about offense now.

Well, scores are low for many teams these days because the quarterback play is so incredibly bad.

LOL. Way to shift that blame away from your O, Mike.
This was his plan all along. It's obvious with his way too safe offensive system. Quinn and the D was going to be his scapegoat this year. He knows how Jerry operates. All Jerry needs is scapegoat every year to draw away the fans from going after the real problem.

McCarthy can't say what he really knows to be true.

It is possible to have an explosive offense that protects the ball, scores a lot of points, has red zone success by scoring TDs, AND plays to their defense.

He (we) are limited at the QB position. For the millionth time….there’s no offense that fits an unfit QB.
