Would be be in better shape now with Garrett and have a more competitive team?

Possible they get off to a better start, but once you lose your QB, LT, RT, RG, C you just can't win realistically.

Cant believe im about to say this, but where this team would probably benefit from the old staff is on the defensive side of the ball. I couldn't stand rods basic scheme, but he typically got the best effort out of his guys. The only thing soft about rods defense was his coverage, and we certainly wouldn't get guys pubkically stating that they can't play hard for a full game.

This is pot on. Dallas was atop 10 defense last year. Nolan is a disaster.

Yah, sure they were. This defense has been bad for a long time despite some yardage metric. Jones wasnt allowing long TD bombs every week either. The other secondary clowns werent even starting last year other than Woods. Hill wasnt even good enough to be activated last year and this year we are already into the backup behind Hill. LOL

3 weeks in the offseason to implement a new scheme isn't ideal. That being said, they could fire Nolan tomorrow if they like.

Merinelli is the BIG reason the defense sucks. All the blown draft picks they took has advice on. Taco, Hill, Jaylon, Gregor, ect....ect....

how many defenders played last year that are different to this year? I easily count more than 5 starters. Maybe even 8!

Chido
Anthony Brown
Jourdan Lewis
LVE
Sean Lee
Jeff Heath
Byron Jones
Maliek Collins
Robert Quinn

All those guys have missed time or aren't on the roster anymore.

Combine that with the regression of DLaw.

Heck no.

this is for the best. And the defense has been held together by bubble gum and bailing wire too long. Marinelli was a genius.....his scheme was so simple that any of us could have learned it in an afternoon. These players are dumb.

Lol. What would Garrett do with the NFL'S worse Defense?! He couldn't even control/work the Offense.
Statistically top 10 last year. I agree they were better on paper than on the field, but this defense was 5x better under garrett/rod. Im not an advocate for those guys, but we went from bad to embarrassing withing a matter of months.

Dallas would be in better shape with Garrett. They are looking at a 3-4 win season, though, so that bar isn't very high.

No. But I don’t think the team would quit like they did.
They quit last year too. I think if last years team had the injuries this years team did, they would be just as bad.

Whats scary about the injuries, is that you figure the replacements would be playing especially hard. Not happening. Thats bad

Yes, we would be - no debating it at all. It is not even close.

Garretts downfall began with the playoff thrashing at LA. That is when the players started to not believe in the scheme and the coaches. Then, we have the team killing deals/holdouts of Zeke and Demarcus. Teammates know what kind of people they are and whether they work at their craft. It is obvious these 2 bozos don't do that, they just play for the check. Demarcus is a turd and Zeke is an immature kid. Then you take a guy like Jaylon who performs well/works hard to get a contract and then just tanks. All those things combined tolled to the end of Garrett here.

What I think this has shown to me more than anything that Garrett is always what I said he was best at. He is a CEO type, not a great coach in the football sense but a great leader of men. It just became too long without any postseason success. Garrett would make a great GM but he is not a great coach.

Garrett as a coach is a lot like how I feel about Dak as a QB. A lot of good traits but I don't think enough to get to a Superbowl. I appreciate Garrett as a coach now and Dak more as a player now that we see Dalton as well. I don't think it is enough to put 40 mill into Dak however because we saw in the same game against the Rams that Dak can't make that leap either.

COMPLETE OVERHAUL is needed starting with the GM.

I'd rather win 2 games and get a premium draft pick then struggle and fight to 7-8 wins. This team doesn't have the talent, even with Dak, to contend for a super bowl. Might as well rebuild and try again with a better mix of players........not that Jerry is capable of building a better team, but there would be more hope anyway.

All you have to do is look at 2015 to get your answer. The 4-12 Cowboys had some key injuries, a patch work defensive line, and were one of the worst offenses in the league. Defense despite their short comings was average and there weren't many blowout losses. The good news is the Cowboys filled holes and rebounded in a big way the next season.
