Just trying to enjoy my night but I didn’t want to leave my pals @Corso and @Hennessy_King hanging with so many unanswered questions so I put in some extra time and did a lot of digging. This was written towards the end of the season but accounts for most of the sacks that happened that year. My work is done here, enjoy fellas.

*mind you, he states at the end that it is subjective

Makes sense a combination of dak, coaching and o line

obviously it doesn’t corso, lol. I was just curious how bad he was so I looked up the 5 guys who I believe started the most on the O line and informed Hennessy of what I found. It was quick simple search, I didn’t break it down and go through every player. There could of a guy like homeboy who played at LT that game vs the Falcons in ‘17 and gave up like 6 or 7 sacks.
Alright. That was your methodology. Noted.

Interesting... definitely more food for thought.

Williams started at 21, new to LG. Just not ready for NFL power at LG. He was better last year, but was unlikely to make much progress on power this offseason rehabbing from his knee.

I'm more positive on Williams than most, and thought he was the likely LG this year, but now that I know he's not fully healthy with the knee yet, LG is probably wide open for McGovern. Not quite his to lose, but his to take with a good camp.

I'm not 'down' on Williams, I just think we can do better at left guard. I think Williams is better suited for tackle and everyone is being done a disservice trying to play him at guard.

I agree typical of the cowboys staff tho. He has the feet and athleticism to play tackle and he was a smaller tackle. now you put a 6'6" 295 lb tackle, at guard, and expect positive results did the staff miss out on the leverage portion of their science classes?

I will say this i wonder if the terrible receiving core by committee contributed as well. From weeks 1-12 it was an abysmal 3.75 sacks a game. After that including playoffs it dropped to 2.1 a game.
IMO, yes the awful WR group to start the season added big time to Dak holding the ball.

IMO, the biggest problem with the OL that year was Alexander being the line coach for the first part of the season. His radically different way of the OL playing (read: hand placement) very much messed up the line... particularly La’el Collins. Then, the line had to re-adjust back to Colombo once he was made coach in the middle of the season.

It was a cluster ****.

That would be ideal, if those two young guys could win the job outright. People question if they will be able to in this abbreviated offseason, but it’d be great for the team if they do.

It is more likely that Looney will start at C and hopefully Biadasz can unseat him at some point this season.

As for LG; with McGovern starting out playing there with Williams recovering, I can see a scenario where McG plays well enough that Williams never regains his starting spot. I hope that is the case - not because I don’t like Williams but because it will mean that McG was just that good - and that will be very good for the team.

I will say this: if both McGovern and Biadasz start early in this season, look out because that will mean both are very good players and will be stalwarts on that line. It is possible because it is a new staff and everyone will be learning it from scratch. Whoever wins at those spots will need to be able to move well because that will be required for McCarthy’s line.

Looney was trash and our o line was bad in 2018 giving up 56 sacks.

*November 28, 2018:

"When not injured, Zach Martin and Tyron Smith are the very best in the game. And what this season has taught us is even when nursing injury these two blue-chippers are still among the best in the NFL. So we can safely say, Smith and Martin’s performance this season has not been the most disappointing on the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line.

Joe Looney may be a far cry from All-Pro Travis Frederick, but he’s no slouch either. If anything Looney has exceeded expectations this season. Not only that but Looney seems to be progressing every week and looks like he may be a legitimate Day 1 starter in this league.

Note: From my novice film review, Looney is improving in nearly every part of his game. His power, movement, reach blocks, and his ability to handle games/stunts is all improving."

I agree!

If nothing else, we'll have some power inside to root people out of the hole, or to stand up against power inside from big defensive tackles.

Something else to consider, if McGovern doesn't play this year, what are we looking at?

Two years of no return on a four year rookie contract? That's some awful return on investment right there. To go along with the returns of a 1st for Taco with nothing to show for it, as well as nothing but trouble so far from last year's 2nd rounder Hill.

Mcgovern doesn't have an accrued season, right? Assuming this year is an accrued season, Cowboys would still have his rights for three more seasons.

The same articles that crapped on lael about his grade don't talk about looneys abysmal grade of 55 which i think wasnt even ranked in the top 32. The combo of him and connor williams was a disaster

I don't think being injured affects his accrued seasons.

One of the consequences of having a scrub HC. They don’t attract they best assistant coaching talent to work for them.
