That's funny..Kellen Moore was doing just that with Cooper Rush and winning games. Didn't the owner/GM, McCarthy, Dak, and most of the fans here say we need to put up 40 burgers instead? Now it's celebrated as a concept hmmm

We won because of the D during those games my dude… lol. Cooper drove the bus, but they really scaled everything back while he was under center.

Once Dak got back, the production— and mistakes!!— went WAY up. Dak has admitted he gets greedy and aggressive.

If he and Kellen are guilty of anything, it is pride. They believed they could play Madden and put up the numbers, so they adapted a risky style of offense instead of working off the ground game and D like they should have.

This is why Kellen is gone. Not because he isn’t a talented OC— but because he was unwilling to heed what was in the best interests of helping this team win and I think he disregarded MM’s approach and there were too many cooks in the kitchen.

I also think he was unwilling to challenge his BFF Dak, and that by itself, really hurt this team bc Dak went off script far too often.

I am not saying the results in Jan will necessarily be any different, but I agree philosophically with the changes Mike is trying to implement.

And no, Cooper Rush is not as good a QB as Dak Prescott lol

Yup, definitely an archaic way of going about an offense in this era of football. The run game should be used when you have a lead and to set up the pass. Might work in the regular season, but trying to go into the playoffs and win against good teams with a run 1st offense is an uphill battle at best.

Absolutely. But success starts with an accurate diagnosis of assets/deficits, strengths/weaknesses, skills/limitations etc…

I am not saying we have a “good” chance at winning a championship with Dak Prescott, but I am saying that our best chance would be to build a top 3 D, and get back to a reined-in Dak that thrived off a good running game and managed a playoff caliber offense in 2016.

Mike is at least speaking in that direction. Of course he has to overcome Jerry and Son to do it— but in theory, this is the correct direction to pursue if the franchise is unwilling to move on from Dak.

Of course, in theory communism works, so yah, there ya go lol

Oh, I agree with everything you say here trust me.
Its just that knowing McCarthy's history as a playcaller and all the supposed interest in acquiring more receiving options makes me leery of believing any of it.

I'm at the head of the line in having Dak throw less and run more like 2016 but again, seeing is believing.

Like all HCs of the Dallas Cowboys— Mike inherited the Jones family and their “ways”. They were committed to Kellen and Mike had to go along with it in order to take the job.

He did it “their way” for 3 years, and has prevailed and now gets to do it “his way” with the offense. Kind of— lol. He still has to overcome the Jones Boys every step of the way.

And if you are gonna blame Mike because he is the HC, then who gets credit for back to back 12 win seasons? NO HC has done that in 30 years…

And no— I am not a MM apologist. The guy has his flaws, but I am saying the deck has been stacked against him and he definitely deserves more credit than he gets.

I remember it well last year. Several here including myself mentioned "winning ugly" over winning with stats as a good thing.

Now,
some people all of a sudden want to return to a 2016 offense that Linehan was run outta town for.
Just maybe Linehan knew that protecting a limited mobile QB with a dominant oline, dynamic RB and timely play action was exactly what was needed, huh?

The thing now is that oline, RB or mobile QB don't exist anymore.

But at least it's fun to say they're gonna try and go back to that way of playing.

This is what we should have been doing. As mentioned before, if anything, the one big positive from Mike is clearing the house of the Jerry proteges. I don't think Kellen was bad... just inexperienced... but I don't want to suffer for the next half decade while he learns the nuances of being an OC in the playoffs.
