Schoonmaker didn't miss a game last season.
He played in all 18.
He was in on 30 percent of the total snaps.
He sticks his nose into piles and blocks well.
He's an asset in the run game.
He's not going anywhere (until that rookie contact expires).

tough break for Muk, who definitely needed a good camp to be a lock.
We cut him he will go somewhere else and be a pro bowler. He is a good versatile player. Never understood why he doesn’t see the field more often.

All camp reports have been pretty positive so far.
I haven’t heard all the camp reports, but Broaddus is real down on Schoonmaker. I certainly don’t agree with everything he says, but on some of the podcasts where he’s come down hard on Schoonmaker, others seem to agree with him. The biggest negative with him so far has been the injuries that keep him out of practice. This is training camp number two for him and it’s been a repeat of what happened last summer. Let’s face it, his availability hasn’t been good and it certainly isn’t helping him that he plays a position that’s deep on the team. Just going off what I saw from him last season and what’s been going on so far this summer, it’s not looking real good for him. I’m not saying he won’t make the team, but his long-term future doesn’t look good.

After just 15 months. Wow.
Even you have to admit it hasn’t been a stellar 15 months for him. Him always coming up with some nagging injury is going to cause a team to lose confidence in him.

You know what you said.
I know exactly what I said, and you won’t find any post for me saying he won’t make the team this season. If you’re going start twisting my comments again I’m not going to waste any more time with you. You need to get it straight what’s being posted.

Again, you know what you said. You said that you wouldn't bet on him making the team. Who cares what you said?

I wouldn’t bet on anyone who’s been a disappointment making the team but nowhere did I say Schoonmaker wouldn’t make the team. You seem to care about what I said because you know, I nail it a lot. I told you last summer that Vaughn wouldn’t be what you were hoping for or predicting he would be. Bingo!

The only thing that’s probably keeping him on the roster is his second round draft status.
That usually gives you a guaranteed job through the first 2 seasons and likely a 3rd unless you show nothing. Cowboys are just terrible at drafting TEs before round 3.

The injury bug doesn't play favorites. Probably the most unsettling element of injuries is it's random nature. We can just hope that the Cowboys have an overall healthy season no matter the degree in which the players contribute to the success of the team.

This is why we always want to hear about emerging young players. It is also why one single player can never fill a need. That team is always one play away from returning to having a need.

Imagine how fortunate we all were that Bland broke out after Diggs went down.

There is still much of training camp to go so I wouldn't pencil in any starters or backups at TE just yet. Normally, losing a former 2nd round pick to constant injury would be devastating to a team but the TE position is highly competitive with at least six strong candidates to make the squad.

We can do what we have often done over the past two to three decades. Just exchange the 2nd round selection with the successful FA rookie they signed and pretend he was the 2nd round pick all along.
