MM saying this because he knows we come out swinging. Could be wrong but don’t be surprised if we absolutely smoke this team. Also it maybe a close one but really see us winning it big..
This is the way I see it. MM talking Detroit up as “the biggest challenge we have faced yet” is actually clever on his part:

1. If we win, which is likely since we are at home and it is Jimmy’s ROH game etc… MM can capitalize on the positive vibes and talk us up and claim beating a “quality opponent” which helps build “confidence” and eliminate some of the stank of the SF, Buff, and Mia losses

2. In case we lose Sat, he has previously explained how “big a challenge” Detroit poses— so it mitigates any post loss funk or hangover

3. Talking Detroit up ahead of time eliminates any bulletin board material and focused his team on preparing for a tough game

Prediction:

Dallas rolls

Cowboys 38
Detroit 24

I'm not sure about the biggest challenge but the Lions' offense is a different animal. The Eagles and 49ers have 2/3 explosive players but the Lions have a ton of very, very good offensive weapons and their OC uses every one of them.
well it's not like they have 2 game changers at RB and WR, right? Oh, their QB is okay as well, and I think they have some sort of great rookie TE. What do we have to worry about with our stout D?

Lamb will probably have another big day at home. Detroit's pass D is slightly below average.

I'm having a hard time understanding how McCarthy would think facing Detroit at home is tougher than the SF and BUF games on the road.
Maybe he meant toughest challenge of the season (that still is left)

This sounds like coach speak to me. Coaches frequently talk up their opponents. No problem with me. Besides, the Lions are a good team.

He's building up excuses in case the team fails him again.

Head Coach wants the team to play for the victory in case Dallas secures the division title - and get a higher seed than Detroit.
Cowboys win Saturday night completes an undefeated run at AT&T Stadium for the 2023 season - a very rare feat ( if it has ever happened before) in the previous 14 years since the first regular season game in 2009.
McCarthy wants that - plus a third consecutive 12-5 regular season.

That- combined with a 3rd straight playoff berth - will go a long way in restoring his stature as a very good head coach in the league for his career.

And how much more will that accomplishment mean when it is done on the night the Cowboys are (finally) inducting their Second Iconic NFL Head Coach into the Ring Of Honor?
You know, because of this last thing you mentioned I will let that comment from MM pass. Yes he better damn right win this game to set up Jimmy's ceremony in the right way.

Standard coach speak. Not news, who cares. If he said something otherwise, then that would be news.

MM: "We could get blown out. Anger may be the only one to score on offence. I'm just preparing the fans in advance. I have little confidence in a win. In fact, I think we're doomed."

Detroit is weaker than the fish were, Mike is trying to make this seem like big accomplishment to heal his arse after the last 2 weeks.

He's trying out the "Bill Belichick flatter them into a sense of overconfidence" strategy.
