No no no.. I do not want this team to marshmallow it's way into the playoffs. I know we need to keep them as healthy and fresh as possible.. but quit being soft damnit.

Whether we like this or not, this is the way of the world now. After a certain super dominate female gymnast bowed out of the Olympics, this sort of thing was bound to happen and filter into other sports. While I disagree with some parts of the message, I do agree that we need to pay more attention to men's mental well being. and yes, I grew up with the attitude of, "rub some dirt on it and get back out there." However, times are changing and we need to change along with it or we will just be old relics from the past. I bet other teams will be doing the same.

I don't disagree as long as the team is being efficient with the time they have. I don't see anything wrong with getting in a little more rest to help heal and recover. These are professional athletes who are better trained than the old guys. These kids have been inundated with sports/conditioning a lot earlier than we probably were. Just look at education as an example...kids are learning topics far sooner than we did. The same can probably be said with sports. Again, it comes down to being efficient with the time they have and that is up to MM to administer properly.

If coach wants to validate this decision, I expect us to win all our games convincingly. Do that, and the decision won't be questioned.

They always expect to win, but the methodology will always be questioned, especially if they don’t.

You can build a wall with sandbags, but there’s no guarantee you won’t get flooded.

The funny thing is he never said they weren’t going to up the intensity….that’s the fans here making that connection because they are starting practice an hour later. You can have higher intensity practices and workouts in a shorter period that have greater residual effects and results for the team.

Bill Walsh was famously known for running very fast moving and shorter practices which focused on execution and precision at a crisp pace. His thought process was that getting everybody attuned to the fact that things move fast on game day was beneficial. Training the coaches, players, trainers everybody to be on point is absolutely valuable.

No issues with this methodology other than you gotta do it rather than say it. He "said" he was gonna get penalties under control and he had an entire offseason & 11 games and hasn't. So, I think it fair to question whether less physical practice is going to benefit what are largely mental errors and pre snap errors to begin with.

But he didn't say he was going to run less physical practice. He just said they were going to start later. The physical part of practice is typically in the afternoon anyway so what he's compressing is the morning film study and probably some of the treatment and stretching. The on-field work is not likely to be affected from what I gather. Maybe it will.. But he didn't say it would.

If you want to keep them fresh, don't play Micah in the final stages of a 40-3 outing against the Vikes just to get him sacks. And don't play him on a meaningless drive against the Giants up 28-13. Skipping a few hours of practice a week is not going to keep these guys any fresher. Head on head competition against other teams is what wears them down!!

Again, seems like most of you did not watch McCarthys press conference. Todd Archer was about to ask a question about going easier on the team and McCarthy interrupted him and said, "no Todd not easier, just more effiecient." Again, some of you are complaining about nothing. McCarthy never said he was going easier on the team, if you took it that way that is your fault and no one else's. So quoting McCarthy on something he never said is foolish.

Yeah game day involves real collisions and lots of them.. Those take way more toll than anything they do in practice other than training camp practices. But in his press conference McCarthy talked about at length about just trying to let the guys get more sleep not necessarily practicing any less intensely. So if in fact the guys do get that prescribed rest it will indeed help them be stronger and fresher.

Every coach is different.

Jimmy dropped one half day of practice during playoff game prep weeks to allow for more recovery. He talks about it in Mike Fisher’s book “Stars and Strife”.

Every NFL team does this these days. Some teams go to 100% zero contact practices starting this time of year (they choose to use up all their contact practice time early in the year).

I need these guys to clean up their pre-snap errors like false starts, illegal motion, etc.. I understand those are also mental mistakes but don't think just talking about them will fix them.
