When the entire team -- offense, defense, and special teams -- are playing at such a high level and better than we've seen in years, I don't see how you don't credit the head coach.

And BTW, I think he has more influence on the offense than he lets on. But he's content to let Kellen get the credit.

And that's another underrated thing about Mike -- he doesn't have a huge ego. He hears the talk that the coordinators should get all the credit and he's fine with it as long as we're winning.

Lest anyone get overly giddy because has the team at 7-2, Jason Garrett had this team at 11-1 in 2016. Just saying.
He's doing what any coach with this much talent should do.
I'll give him more credit if he gets us to the NFC Championship and more so if we make the Super Bowl.

A man who is over paid to coach men who are over paid to play a game. What else is there?

Go Cowboys!

These guys have demanding, heavily scrutinized, high pressure jobs that exist in the spotlight. I think they earn their pay. If I were forced to give a press conference everyday on top of my other responsibilities; I’d go bonkers.

Jimmy took risks. NFC Championship game in 1992 and Jimmy went for it on 4th and 1. Didn't make it. Looking at individual plays, and extrapolating them as the effectiveness of the head coach over a season is what fans do.
The Broncos game had Dak rushing back and rusty.
(How many here did it occur a QB gets out of rhythm with two weeks off to the point he is rusty?)
Cee Dee had an ankle issue. Zeke had a knee issue. Coop had a hamstring issue. The offense was just out of kilter. It happens.

Not certain I agree this is the coordinators and MM is along for the ride. We've seen that with Switzer. I see nothing which leads me to believe McCarthy is sitting back and watching. Fact is I see a great deal that suggests he is leading. If nothing else, Jerry is quieter now than at any time he was with Garrett, or Phillips, or Campo.
Plus, you see McCarthy speaking with Moore a great deal on the sidelines during games.

I believe it is a huge mistake thinking this coach is a puppet, or not in touch. The chemistry and culture of this team reflects his style.

And I said this in another thread. McCarthy is having a great time this year. There are no T.O.s on this team disrupting things. Nor Mr. Ego Aaron Rodgers. Guys are embracing their jobs and how they fit in with the game itself. Receivers blocking for each other. Both backs picking up the blitz. They share the ball, and understand their roles.

This is what a head coach does. Gets 53 grown men to play as one.

McCarthy is the guy in charge of the actual team operations. All branches of the coaching lead to him, offense, defense, and special teams as well as quality control. He manages the coaches in charge of each area are and they, in turn, manage the coaches of the squads in their particular area.

McCarthy consolidates the information from each coordinator to form a unified plan. His immediate supervisor would be the vice president of football operations or the GM according to that GM's management chart.

The problem with any management chart would be any ambiguity as to whom an immediate supervisor is. A management tree in which the offensive and defensive coordinators don't branch straight into the Head Coach would create chaos. That's exactly what happened in 2010.

Simple answer, he is a man out to reprove himself.

No one really knows the behind the scenes with Rodgers in GB but we do know McC was fired and his successor took them to back to back NFCCG's. That's like your ex-wife's new husband being handsome, rich and the kids just love him.

He had a year to reflect on his coaching abilities and shortcomings and had one more shot at redemption.

He decided to dance with the devil because while we just make assumptions about Booger & Son's involvement, that coaches' network has the inside skinny,

I think he wanted Moore back as a way of connecting with his new GM and then had to fire his friend at DC but let's be candid here. The HC decided to adopt a new system with a new coach under those circumstances last year, a huge mistake.

McC has a good staff around him, that is the single most important thing any HC can accomplish and why Landry, Lombardi, Noll, Walsh and Parcells were successful. Parcells went only as far as Belichick could take him.

I also think McC's staff likes working with him because he's gives them the space to do what they need to do. He is not a micromanaging HC and I like that in him a lot.

HE'S A COACH.

I think Mike is an ok coach. The biggest reason we are winning is from Quinn and upgrading the defensive side of the ball.

Where was Mike last year? Is kellen Moore getting better solely due to Mikes influence or would he have gotten better anyway? Same with Dak. Dak has always worked to get better so I can't say its all due to Mike and i'd say the same for Kellen. We can go back to D&K's last full season together before Mike in 2019 where we scored 31+ points 8 times. So we know we have good offensive elements, and this year with or without Dak we've seen some offensive creativity. If Mike wasn't here would we be scoring 30+ points and that answer is yes we dam sure would be scoring about the same. Now ask yourself if our defense would be the same without Quinn, and that is a flat out probably not (certainly a change from marinelli style).

A dam good HC who holds the team accountable and obviously put a plan together to upgrade the roster! Night and day difference in a year and a half.

I see a lot of posters on here bashing MM over pretty much anything and everything. That’s ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion whether it is an informed opinion or complete conjecture. Some of the criticism is probably warranted, but no coach is perfect.

This isn’t a “defend Coach McCarthy” thread. I have been trying to figure out what MM “IS” as a coach. Last year made me wonder if MM was just some sort of clown who rode Rodgers’ coattails to a SB. But I wasn’t ready to buy into that due to the MASSIVE injuries we sustained last year.

This year is a different story entirely. MM still has times where his clock management and decision making on 4th down leave you scratching your head. But I have been trying to reserve judgment on the guy because time tends to clear things up and let the truth come out.

One of my observations is that MM seems to have the “next man” ready to play when the time comes, and he finds a way to put that player into a position where the loss of the better player still allows his team to win. That is something that happened a lot in Green Bay and that seems to be carrying over here. With the evidence I have seen on that——personally, I am going to give MM credit for that. Too much evidence to suggest otherwise.

MM seems to be willing to quietly hold players accountable for their play (except for Connor Williams so far—lol). Jaylon is GONE. That would not have likely happened under Garrett.

He has done a master job of using the PS and the rules to play the roster spots/rules to his advantage. The Cowboys depth is much deeper than it has been since the SB years. Love the way MM has worked this roster.

MM is doing a great job of keeping players “shut down” long enough to heal rather than rushing them back a week early and watching them get re-injured.

I realize MM isn’t perfect, but as time goes on I get a little bit more comfortable that he was a “good” hire for the Cowboys. He’s not “The Hoodie”, but no one is. I think he is better than some give him credit for.

I see a lot to appreciate in MM but his lip smacks during press conferences drive me insane. Lol. Maybe that’s one of the reasons Jerry loves him some MM.

honestly, he used to be a KM a offensive guru. now he’s evolved in to a parcels leader of men. he says thing and does things go get them motivated has his hands in offense and defense schemes.

if he was more pissed off all the time i would think he was bill’s nephew

Winning games. Our players obviously respect and play hard for him. The only two things I care about with any coach. He's a football man through and through. JUST. KEEP. WINNING.

Let me put it this way, I would rather have @Ranching coach the Cowboys for the ten year that Garrett was here!

I think MM is doing a good job, some of his calls are out of the ordinary that we were used to seeing under Garrett, like his 4th down go for it plays, but in a few instances it has worked. No coach is perfect not even the Hoodie, but it's a refreshing to have an actually coach that has won before.

MM has brought a blue collar culture to a white collar country club. Its been nice to see. The players have bought in and this team is ready to go.

He is a 7-2 head coach with SB experience and a chance to get a number 1 seed.

Well said. Nobody really knows the dynamics within his coaching staff. Some here think he has zero input on offense and defense. I just don't see how he gets paid $4MM for managing the clock on Sundays. But what we know for sure is that he is 7-2 right now.

We also know his team has been able to survive adversity. The team fought back to beat the Pats in OT despite a bad start. They rallied behind Cooper Rush to beat the Vikings. They came back from the horrible Denver game and destroyed the Falcons. Also the team seems to be pretty motivated. Look at CDL, Parsons, Dak, etc. They all seem pumped.
