I think we are seeing why he wasn’t hotly pursued by other teams.

Talent is overcoming risky analytical decisions and poor clock Mgmt.

I’d argue our asst coaches are doing a better job and why they will probably be more hotly pursued than our HC was.

I could play for McCarthy. Like a lot of the modern players, a screamer would only piss me off. And I don’t want a softey or teacher’s pet like Garrett. McCarthy is a good mix of everything you want in a head coach. Leads the room and player chemistry, tough blue collar work ethic, no cliques or nonsense, empowers his assistants, no stupid games and good experience in big games with big players.

I think he’s just what this team needs and the more people hate on him the more I try and defend him from day one. I’m glad more people are realizing his value. Winning cures all but he’s an underrated Super Bowl winning coach, if such a thing exists.

I see a lot of posters on here bashing MM over pretty much anything and everything. That’s ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion whether it is an informed opinion or complete conjecture. Some of the criticism is probably warranted, but no coach is perfect.

This isn’t a “defend Coach McCarthy” thread. I have been trying to figure out what MM “IS” as a coach. Last year made me wonder if MM was just some sort of clown who rode Rodgers’ coattails to a SB. But I wasn’t ready to buy into that due to the MASSIVE injuries we sustained last year.

This year is a different story entirely. MM still has times where his clock management and decision making on 4th down leave you scratching your head. But I have been trying to reserve judgment on the guy because time tends to clear things up and let the truth come out.

One of my observations is that MM seems to have the “next man” ready to play when the time comes, and he finds a way to put that player into a position where the loss of the better player still allows his team to win. That is something that happened a lot in Green Bay and that seems to be carrying over here. With the evidence I have seen on that——personally, I am going to give MM credit for that. Too much evidence to suggest otherwise.

MM seems to be willing to quietly hold players accountable for their play (except for Connor Williams so far—lol). Jaylon is GONE. That would not have likely happened under Garrett.

He has done a master job of using the PS and the rules to play the roster spots/rules to his advantage. The Cowboys depth is much deeper than it has been since the SB years. Love the way MM has worked this roster.

MM is doing a great job of keeping players “shut down” long enough to heal rather than rushing them back a week early and watching them get re-injured.

I realize MM isn’t perfect, but as time goes on I get a little bit more comfortable that he was a “good” hire for the Cowboys. He’s not “The Hoodie”, but no one is. I think he is better than some give him credit for.

I see a lot to appreciate in MM but his lip smacks during press conferences drive me insane. Lol. Maybe that’s one of the reasons Jerry loves him some MM.
he is the ultimate CEO. his responsibility is to find the right coaches and people and let them do their job. his job is to set the tone, culture and expectations and hold everyone accountable. he held Jaylon accountable and he is gone....

Williams, as much as we may not like him is far better at what he does than Jaylon was at his, so its a different story, but williams is on a short leash. MM is sending him a message this week. you don't want to have a knee jerk reaction when things go wrong or don't go right. that would send the wrong message to the team, but when it becomes a problem you have to face it, address it...and I am sure they have had talks with Williams, given even Moore mentioned it....they are aware and they are handling it.

he is also a pretty underrated motivator. I read the story about the monkey butt powder and that really motivated the team. he knows this team is young and he is teaching them what it takes to win. teaching them that you have to come ready everyweek and you can't just walk in and win.....he poured a little salt on their wounds to make sure they remember the pain

he has done a great job of establishing a culture, build a team, camaraderie and make sure the team is in the right state of mind.

he is a bit of a risk taker, sometimes at the wrong time, but I am not sure if he has an underlying reason behind taking those risks....is it confidence building or is it something else. but he has been consistent with it. as far as game day management, we nitpick, but he has been ok to good. keeping in mind that no coach is perfect. they all make mistakes on game day.

Yes, I'm from Germany. The profile name indeed sounds German too although it's a character in a movie and not my name heh.
That’s cool man I always appreciate the international fanbase. Hopefully we keep this train rolling and you can come watch a meaningful game at the stadium!

Yea, when I first glanced over thought it said-Stinkfart. Lol
Hahaha, fortunately that is not the translation. Would mean something like striped Carl. The guy in the movie wore a T-shirt with stripes, so they called him that. Anyway, pretty boring story, lol. Back to the Cowboys :D

When the entire team -- offense, defense, and special teams -- are playing at such a high level and better than we've seen in years, I don't see how you don't credit the head coach.

And BTW, I think he has more influence on the offense than he lets on. But he's content to let Kellen get the credit.

And that's another underrated thing about Mike -- he doesn't have a huge ego. He hears the talk that the coordinators should get all the credit and he's fine with it as long as we're winning.

I’ll say this: No matter what anyone outside the locker room says, the players credit MM for their success. Every player I’ve heard who has come on all the various Cowboys TV/radio/internet(podcasts, etc.) call him a great coach.

It’s easy for us - me included - to say ‘clock mgmnt’, ‘left Dak in too long’, ‘didn’t motivate the players’, etc, but the players on this team think he’s a great coach. I’ll take their word for it.
