I see a lot of posters on here bashing MM over pretty much anything and everything. That’s ok. Everyone is entitled to their opinion whether it is an informed opinion or complete conjecture. Some of the criticism is probably warranted, but no coach is perfect.

This isn’t a “defend Coach McCarthy” thread. I have been trying to figure out what MM “IS” as a coach. Last year made me wonder if MM was just some sort of clown who rode Rodgers’ coattails to a SB. But I wasn’t ready to buy into that due to the MASSIVE injuries we sustained last year.

This year is a different story entirely. MM still has times where his clock management and decision making on 4th down leave you scratching your head. But I have been trying to reserve judgment on the guy because time tends to clear things up and let the truth come out.

One of my observations is that MM seems to have the “next man” ready to play when the time comes, and he finds a way to put that player into a position where the loss of the better player still allows his team to win. That is something that happened a lot in Green Bay and that seems to be carrying over here. With the evidence I have seen on that——personally, I am going to give MM credit for that. Too much evidence to suggest otherwise.

MM seems to be willing to quietly hold players accountable for their play (except for Connor Williams so far—lol). Jaylon is GONE. That would not have likely happened under Garrett.

He has done a master job of using the PS and the rules to play the roster spots/rules to his advantage. The Cowboys depth is much deeper than it has been since the SB years. Love the way MM has worked this roster.

MM is doing a great job of keeping players “shut down” long enough to heal rather than rushing them back a week early and watching them get re-injured.

I realize MM isn’t perfect, but as time goes on I get a little bit more comfortable that he was a “good” hire for the Cowboys. He’s not “The Hoodie”, but no one is. I think he is better than some give him credit for.

I see a lot to appreciate in MM but his lip smacks during press conferences drive me insane. Lol. Maybe that’s one of the reasons Jerry loves him some MM.

He’s a very experienced coach with a ring and a 7-2 football team despite a passel of injuries.

He only seems so tall because he is standing on the shoulders of giants like Garrett and Phillips.

I didn’t love or hate the hire. My view was to give him a chance. We gave the red headed clapper a decade give McCarthy a chance. He has don’t nothing but be good for this team no matter how much anyone wants to say that he is only winning because of Quinn and Moore. Quinn and Moore are very very good yes, but it takes a pretty good HC to hold this altogether. Hell when was the last time this team had a Special Teams that actually contributed? In all the years of Jason Garrett you ever remember a time this team had back to back games where the ST blocked a punt? Complimentary football does not happen in a vacuum.

Are you talking about THIS site because the ONLY thing I hear people bashing MM about is his in game and clock management.

Compared to Garrett is was an amazing hire. WHATEVER faults MM has he still qualifies as a REAL HC. Something Garrett the fraud NEVER was and still isnt. He is still masquerading as an OC but i dont expect that to continue for too much longer.

The bad for me personally:

I believe in the chain of Moore-Quinn-McCarthy that MM is the weak link. I believe that if you have Moore and Quinn as your coordinators and you have the talent we have on this team then you're going to be a good football team.

I believe the stuff he does like bingo, smashing watermelons, and "monkey butt" is as corny as you can get. Some of ya like it I know, but I think it's corny. That's just my opinion on that.

His time management is horrible and always has been. I posted an article from 2017 that detailed all the weird time management decisions he had made up till that point. It's a weakness for him.

I'm not a fan of some of the 4th down attempts. I'm okay with some, but others I am 100% against, like when the score is 0-0 and we're on our side of the field.

The good for me personally:

I believe that McCarthy is better than Garrett, but that means nothing really, because the Garrett bar is so low that it's not impressive to just be better than Garrett.

He lets the coordinators do their jobs it seems and he doesn't try and interfere. I believe Garrett wanted to be in on he offensive game plans a little too much and it showed. McCarthy seems to sit back and let them do their jobs.

I think he is relatable and has this lunch pail attitude which I like.

This dude coached Aaron Rodgers, so he knows how to deal with big egos.

Final thoughts:

I was not a fan of the hire and I'm still not. I wanted to go young instead of recycling someone else's trash. That's just my preference, and my mind could easily change in a few weeks, but for now I'm just not sold on McCarthy.
Yeah I’m not a fan of the “corny” stuff either, but maybe it’s better than “stacking good days on good days” and “beating the man across from you, while disregarding matchups and scheme”.

Well said. Nobody really knows the dynamics within his coaching staff. Some here think he has zero input on offense and defense. I just don't see how he gets paid $4MM for managing the clock on Sundays. But what we know for sure is that he is 7-2 right now.

We also know his team has been able to survive adversity. The team fought back to beat the Pats in OT despite a bad start. They rallied behind Cooper Rush to beat the Vikings. They came back from the horrible Denver game and destroyed the Falcons. Also the team seems to be pretty motivated. Look at CDL, Parsons, Dak, etc. They all seem pumped.
The longer this season wears on, the better that win over the Patriots looks on paper.

I don't care what you all say bad about Mike McCarthy. He is way, way better than the clapping Carrot.

McCarthy may not be perfect. But he has done an outstanding job. He wants to win.

Although everyone is giving praise to Kellen with this offense. I see that our offense is very similar to Green Bay's when Rogers was setting the NFL on fire. Those sideline passes remind me of Rogers making those clutch plays at the right time.

I think McCarthy has alot to do with it, although Kellen gets a brunt of the credit.

So I like McCarthy alot. He is a good hire and what Dallas needed.

I think he's okay. Definately not my favourite coach out there and I wasn't that happy when he came on board. But if he get's us that SB win I don't care. For now it seems to work and that's all that matters.

Some odd ingame decisions yes, but as a whole he seems to be in control of this team and their focus on winning. Seems like the rest of the coaching staff is doing a great job on pushing the players to higher levels, so all in all everything's fine right now.

Too bad all that talent over the last couple of years was wasted though. We need three SB wins in a row to make up for that long *** draught, lol. When I was old enough to travel to the US and watch games live in the stadium the great years were already over.

I'm definately plan to return though and watch a 7 time superbowl winner @ AT&T Stadium crush the Eagles or something. :D
Where are you from brotha? I’m guessing German based off the profile name lol

I think McCarthy has had an impactful influence upon the offensive roster, while leaving Dan Quinn to do what he does best. MM's ability to maintain the roster with the talent it required has been an overall positive influence on the entire team. The players also seem to respond to him quite well. I like him more than any HC that we've had, here, in a very long time. You, certainly, can't knock the results!
I've long given MM a pass for his 1st year, here -- it would've likely been a curse for any new HC.

I think MM is too hard on the players. When they mess up, he should be cheering them on and patting them on the butt instead of yelling at them. Maybe he should even send them back into the locker room for a massage and whirlpool bath for 1/4; this will instill positive vibes and make the players happy and contempt. After all, its only a game and the players need to be having fun not stress. Winning isn't everything as long as they entertain 1/2 of the crowd and assist some team in making the Super Bowl.

His best move so far seems to be addressing his worst move so far. Firing that clown show Nolan and hiring Quinn.
