There was a month-long stretch in 2013 where he looked like one of the best QBs in football... Throwing it up to Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey
and making Jay Cutler look like a chump...... to answer the question though, no thanks... I know its always tempting to throw a name of a recently released
player out just to have a conversation.... McCown got beat up pretty good in Tampa... 52 sacks in 14 games... Weeden has more upside at this point (I can't believe I just typed that).

That would be an upgrade I would think, but that's not saying much......he is about the same age as Romo so I think we need to look under more rocks. .

Weeden had a rough outing against one of the better (at the time) defenses in the NFL, while i understand he looked well below average, im not sure mccown at this point would be any better.

Just say no...........................

It really doesn't matter who the back-up is, but Dallas can do better.

Boy, was I wrong on that Bears team this year. I'd have kept McCown, cut Cutler (who I've never much liked, anyway), and thought that offense was going to be really dangerous. And then all year they were right ahead of us in terms of the draft and in having a little money to sign VFAs. I thought they were going to improve that bad defense and be a dark horse contender in 2014. Oops.

Me too... Michael Irvin picked Cutler to be the NFL MVP... at least we didn't miss THAT bad... but yeah, they just imploded last year... and now they hit the reset button... may cut Brandon Marshall.

It matters for Dallas maybe more so than any other team

Why? Because of Romo's age and back issues?

If Romo goes down, it doesn't matter if Weeden, McCown or any other scrub is behind him, it won't get Dallas to the ultimate goal. That is true for most teams anyways.

because if Tony goes down for a few games (you know, like this year), I'd like to be able to maybe win those games anyway

Agree, but there isn't a QB available that can fill in for a few games at this time and McCown is one of them. Hopefully, they find a capable back-up.

Turns 36 in July? Time flys.

I would prefer going after Austin Davis as a development backup (reminds me of Jake Delhomme and even Romo) and if the market is surprisingly low enough I would also be interested in Jake Locker who looks like a (big) good young pocket passer. I think he surprises with better offensive talent around him.
