Why cut Weeden? He only makes the vet min of like $665k. The 52nd salary isn't likely much if any lower than that.

If anything, I sign McCown and have both of them + Vaughn compete for two spots. A top 100 pick could do this as well.

I'm OK with this strategy. At $665K, if they *think* Weeden has upside (that I don't see) then keep him and another QB and sacrifice a roster space. I'd even be tempted to take a QB in round 2 knowing that precludes me giving immediate help to the 2015 team... but it would have to be a QB that I felt has fallen a long way.

Turns 36 in July? Time flys.

I would prefer going after Austin Davis as a development backup (reminds me of Jake Delhomme and even Romo) and if the market is surprisingly low enough I would also be interested in Jake Locker who looks like a (big) good young pocket passer. I think he surprises with better offensive talent around him.

That's an interesting name. He had some good games in the NFL. He is a restricted FA though.

Austin Davis is restricted but since he was originally a rookie free agent he doesn't have a minimum salary original draft pick tender available. So the only way the Rams could keep him is if they tag him with a 2nd round pick and a 2.187 million salary. This is a guy that they put on the street in 2013 and they benched for Shaun Hill. So they theoretically could keep him from becoming free but I just think they let him test the waters. Even if they still want to re-sign him for the minimum.

A better back up QB can keep us afloat, while we wait for Romo to get healthy

Depends a lot on what stretch of a team Schedule. Weeden came in did ok against a weak Skins D, but wasn't ready to play against a top echelon D like Ariz---I'd say it looked like he was mentally intimidated before the game began.

but that is also why Parcels "protected" Romo as long as he could, and why Garrett might protect Vaughn longer than a lot hope for.....

Nothing wrong with that. Should another vet QB falls into our laps I bring him in also.
