not interested...as much as I loathed Weeden this past season after the AZ game, he is normally not a total boob...he can do alright if needed...draft a guy if you want, but I think our 3rd stringer (Vaughn) is our guy behind romo for now...they stashed him for some reason

Cade had his chance. He is out of the league.

this is cowboys country, where "if you are being cut from any roster, you are immediately better than what the current Dallas Cowboys roster has" So why would he be out of the league, we have ample for anyone being cut from any roster. Just bring em all here. Works for Washington.

Why? Because of Romo's age and back issues?

If Romo goes down, it doesn't matter if Weeden, McCown or any other scrub is behind him, it won't get Dallas to the ultimate goal. That is true for most teams anyways.

A better back up QB can keep us afloat, while we wait for Romo to get healthy

no, you are pretty much done. Regardless who you bring in. A game or two, possibly, any serious long stretch, Not many current back ups id take right now. At this point i personally want to see what Dustin has. And Dallas has to get on the ball to find Romos replacement. Or its Aikman part deux around here.

Played in 14 games the last 2 years?

Would that really bother you for the backup spot? And imo the most talented on the market - starting caliber.

And how much of that is due to the guys around him? Think Romo lasts long with that Titans group?

And a better back up QB, who ever it is, could make all the difference in that game or two. Going 2-0 vs 0-2, could mean the difference between home field advantage or playing in the first round (it was this year). And fwiw, Austin Davis will be entering his 4th year and the book is just about written on him and I doubt he becomes a starting quality QB, especially if the QB hungry Rams let him go.

Oh, I get that. I was making a lame joke on the posters misspelling of the guy's name. He meant McCown, but he put McNown as in a previously failed Bears QB.

There was a month-long stretch in 2013 where he looked like one of the best QBs in football... Throwing it up to Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey
and making Jay Cutler look like a chump...... to answer the question though, no thanks... I know its always tempting to throw a name of a recently released
player out just to have a conversation.... McCown got beat up pretty good in Tampa... 52 sacks in 14 games... Weeden has more upside at this point (I can't believe I just typed that).

Negative, the guy cant play.

Turns 36 in July? Time flys.

I would prefer going after Austin Davis as a development backup (reminds me of Jake Delhomme and even Romo) and if the market is surprisingly low enough I would also be interested in Jake Locker who looks like a (big) good young pocket passer. I think he surprises with better offensive talent around him.

Locker couldnt hit water from a boat.

Austin Davis showed me he has a little potential. The other names mentioned not so much.

Weeden hasn't shown me any upside potential. I liked his signing as a #3 and because he was a 1st round talent. But I see no evidence that he can play in this league. I'd rather groom a young QB including an early round draft pick.

However, McCown can win some games behind this offensive line, with our running game, with our receiving weapons. Weeden cannot. McCown isn't going to drive this team to a Super Bowl. But if Romo goes down for awhile, McCown could go 3-2 (with this team). Weeden would be 1-4. That offensive line in Tampa reminded me of the Cowboys 2 years ago. Terrible. That's also why Tampa's running game took a huge step back.

So, yes, I'd consider McCown.

Looking like Fitzpatrick may become available. I would take him over the above two every day of the week.

Why cut Weeden? He only makes the vet min of like $665k. The 52nd salary isn't likely much if any lower than that.

If anything, I sign McCown and have both of them + Vaughn compete for two spots. A top 100 pick could do this as well.
