He's more than just the next in line. He wins, he leads, and he plays well when it matters. And NO quarterback plays well without the pieces around him and that includes the offensive system, which has been the Cowboys biggest weakness since Dak has been qb.

Exactly. We all saw how Aikman's passing offense stalled without Irvin. At least Aikman had a great offensive coordinator calling plays, unlike Linehan.

Dak has the opportunity to earn the respect. I believe in the guy but respect is earned on the field and he can do that by putting up a great season and leading this team into post season once again.

Why would leading his team into the playoffs earn him any respect from the idiots on here when it hasn't 2 of the last 3 years?

The problem is he has a lot of elite pieces around him and those elite pieces cost money.

If he was truly an elite player then I would always prioritize the elite QB over WR's, Olineman, RB, Linebackers, basically anyone on the team.

But he is more dependent then most because he is not an elite player. Even calling him top 10 QB is a stretch.

So if you look around the league it's been very difficult for teams with high paid QB's to have success after they have gotten paid.

So if we want to win a Superbowl maybe paying a non-elite QB elite QB money is not the best idea.

If he had won a Superbowl when he was under his rookie contract then i'd be all for it but he didn't get it done and now we are supposed to pay him? He's just not good enough to take up that much cap space.

Here's hoping Dak elevates himself this year and his team along with him in the process! Seems like it was OK for Romo to take six years to develop but God forbid that Dak should enjoy the same luxury. What's wrong with this picture? Let's face it -- we just aren't entitled to instant gratification. ;)

Respect is earned, he should do something to earn it. We can revisit this issue at the end of the season, no respect, doubt, yeah that about right at this point.

He already has earned it.

Move on

Unless taking an insane amount of sacks and getting back up every time, having one of the best rookie QB seasons of all time, leading his team to the playoffs in two of his first three years, and winning a playoff game for a team that has only done that three times since 1995 isn't enough for respect.
