I don't know what Jones' contract looks like or when it's up but having said that, I do believe that McGahee is a better back then what last season showed. That Buffalo offense is really bad. I would have to wonder what he could do in an offense with other weapons. Could be a very nice match.

likewise, what could our current RB's do with better blocking

Perhaps in David's world it is likewise. However, the question you should be asking here is if Jones could produce like numbers in that Buffalo offense? That really should answer the question as to who might be the better back. I have no problems with JJs physical skills, per say. In fact, I was in favor of taking JJ in a trade down prior to us actually doing it. It is simply a matter of being able to run through trash. JJ has not proven he can do that. If you can't do that in the NFL, then you can't be a real good back IMO.

Rumor has it, according to ESPN anyway, that the Bills are looking to trade McGahee for a 3rd round pick. I find this very intriguing. Remember, McGahee isn't very old, 23 or 24, and still has alot of football in front of him. Ok, he's no choir boy, but he's not PacMan Jones either.

Who would pull the trigger on that trade? I think I would do it. Or better yet, if the bills were interested, since they will be shopping for a RB, trade them Julius and a 4th for McGahee.

Thoughts??????????

#### EDIT ##### McGahee will turn 26 this Oct.

I said much earlier in another thread that I'd trade JJ for McGahee, and the Bills would probably do that one, imo.

all I know is that McGahee wasn't stellar in '06, receiving less carries, and is now on the trading block

The Edge wasn't stellar last year either, but everyone knows he is better than his numbers.

McGahee is better than Jones. He is better than Thomas Jones. I think if we bring Columbo back and have Davis at guard (barring injury) McGahee could rush for 1,400+ yards here in Dallas.

Thats a bunch of garbage. McGahee is far better than Julius without question. As I've said several times, Jones requires training wheels to make it through the line without becoming horizontal. Jones had three years to prove he was the guy. Thus far he has proven nothing. RB are gauged by 1,000 yard season. He finally hit that mark this year and he barely made it. 91.6% of his yards over that 1,000 yard mark came on a single run which I would also like to say was (I beleive) his only long (over 40 yards) run from the line of scrimage. How many people here said "Jones is explosive too!"? Yes, he has explosiveness. Problem is, if he gets touched coming through the line it's all for not, just as his single long run of 77 yards says it is. Otherwise, with the speed he has he should have several runs at 40+ yards. Emmitt who is much slower than Jones had several break-away runs a year, yet Julius does not.

we'll never know, now will we? so it's just a matter of opinion, but just because you think Julius couldn't do it, despite our line being nothing to gloat about, doesn't make it so

OK, if you like JJ better, I'm not going to try and prove to you otherwise. All I'm saying is that our offense was 5th in the entire NFL last year. Buffalo's was 30th. The only other offensive threat Buffalo had was really Evans who had a pretty good year with over 1200 yards receiving. Nobody else even had 500. Reed had 410. Anthoney Thomas rushed for 378 yards all season. JP Losman is what he is.

We had Romo who had a pretty good year. We had both starting WRs with over a thousand yards receiving. Our TE had over 700 yards receiving. Barber rushed for 654 yards, 14TDs and averaged 4.8 a carry.

IMO, it was much easier for Jones the football then it was for McGahee. The book on Buffalo was stop McGahee and you stop the Bills. To me, it's really pretty easy to see but everybody is entitled to there own opinions.

I dont recall seeing McGahee have many (if any) games anywhere near Jones' best games

McGahee is average...he is not way better than either back we already have

it's not about being in love w/ JJ, which I'm not, but I do think he's a good back

IMO, McGahee wouldn't be a big improvement, but keep pining for something that won't happen

Yes, but you don't need McGahee, Jones, and Barber. Part of the deal is to get rid of Jones.

I am just saying why offer more than they are asking? I am for keeping Julius, but if they are going to trade him I would hope it would be a good trade. Julius and a 6th makes more sense than Julius and a 4th if the asking price is a 3rd.

Thanks for that. You still didn't answer the question. Do you believe that Jones could average 1000 yards for three seasons in Buffalo's offense?

Honestly, I'd just give them a 3rd and be done with it. We were more effective when we had Jones, Barber and Thomas in the line up. I'd trade for McGahee and let them all work it out in camp. If you then decide to trade Jones, then you can get a 4th to whomever will step up.

That is kind of what I am thinking. Heck, Dallas could probably get more by trading Barber than Jones and Barber only cost them a 4th rounder to begin with so they could increase their value with a good pick.

I am happy with the combo of Barber and Jones. I don't think it needs to be screwed with right now. Fix the o-line and everyone should get better.

I think it's a decent combination as well but I would probably stop short of saying I'm happy with it. I have been a big supporter of JJ these last few years but I have really been a bit disappointed with his ability to run through tackles. He just doesn't do it as well as I'd hoped he would. Now, he may get better at this but I don't honestly know that he will. However, to me, MaGahee is a guy who can get to the corner. That's a big thing in the NFL. Notice what our offensive running game was able to do when we had Thomas in the backfield. He was also a guy who could get the corner. When he was in the game, it created balance and made the offense run smooth. JJ is quick but he is not a guy who I think you can say is fast, per say. He has good feet but he's not fast from the first step. I think McGahee is. I would really like to see what a guy with that kind of ability could do in our offense.

Thomas? As in Anthony or are you hopefully referring to Tyson Thompson?

Maybe happy was a bad choice. Let's say I am content with the running backs right now. Still concerned with the line, both starting and depth. A 3rd round choice could be used to gain more depth on the line. On the defensive side, too. Another nose tackle or pass rusher. Also the need to draft a young receiver. I am not willing to trade a 3rd at this point when there are other holes to fill and Jones and Barber have shown they can do a good job. If Jones played like Hambrick, then I would say make the trade, but he is better than that.

Wow. Wouldn't you love to be a GM on the other side of the trade from some of these talent evaluators?
