McGinn Draft Series Part 6: RB

This is a weird comparison, but DJ Giddens running style reminds me of Emmitt. With his vision and change of direction. He's taller, so physically he looks a little different. But the way he reads his blocks, makes guys miss, doesn't look like he's blazing by anybody but still breaks big runs. With his production + athletic testing + connection with our coaching staff, he's got to be a top RB target for us, surely.

I don’t know if I see that comp but he’s definitely been my pet cat target for the 3rd round.

12. JAYDON BLUE, Texas (5-9, 196, 4.37, 4): Third-year junior with merely five starts in 38 games. “He’s a second- or third-round pick if he can pass pro,” said one scout. “Not a real thumper. Doesn’t have a ton of *** behind him. But he’s a major asset as a receiver because he’s really fast and really athletic. He knows how to run routes and catch a ball and is good run after the catch. He’s a home-run guy with the outside zone. He’s elusive in space to a wow level. He’s very sudden.” Caught two touchdown passes against Ohio State in the playoffs. Finished with 214 carries for 1,161 (5.4) and 11 TDs to go with 56 receptions for 503 and seven scores. Returned three kickoffs for 26.7 in 2023. “Sort of a knockoff Jahmyr Gibbs,” a second scout said. “They use him on quick passes and screens. He’s a good receiver. He’s a piece of a backfield puzzle, not like the guy. Where do you take that guy? Third or fourth round.” Passed up his senior of football in Houston.

I've seen a few articles now, that have Etienne on Day 2. I don't get it. The kid is an average all around back and should be picked in the 200's.
This is the highest I've seen him listed....he'd be a good 6th/7th rounder, but definitely not spending a day 2 pick on him with all the other backs available

In these clips for sure looks like some Emmitt tape.

Well ya, but if you wanted to make predictions you should know the odds are heavily out of your favor
Why?
We could easily trade down in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd round and get a 4th. You say they haven't done it much in the last 20 years. LOL.....they haven't had a mostly entire NEW coaching staff in 25+ years.

This is why I say every year is different, but I admit IF McCarthy was still here, we could maybe look back at the last 3-4 years, but he's not.

“I absolutely hate his guts. His daddy was a vagabond and momma was bow-legged. I wouldn’t draft him until the 6th or 7th round.” — said one scout

Lol it sounds like you convincing yourself they are going to do it

If you want to hope thats one thing. But if you expecting in the face of overwhelming evidence, then thats foolish

They very well could trade down. But expecting them to do so is not rational given how passive our FO has been

LOL LOL ....no more than you are convincing yourself they are not. All I'm saying we don't know. You said odds are it won't happen and I'm saying those odds can work either way with a new staff...D (lol)

They did it last year.
