In this scenario, Zack Martin is clearly the best value if Cowboys stay at 16. But a trade down is also another option. Cowboys may pick up a low first and an extra (high) 2nd. If so, pick BPA (Hageman, Nix, Su'a-Filo, Ealy, etc.) with the first and take a slider with high 2nd (e.g. Derek Carr).

it takes two to tango; we would need someone who wants to trade up. Its easy to talk trade; but not that many actually happen. IF a draft is thought to be deeper than normal, there will be fewer trade up attempts.

Agree; athletically different guys altogether.
I think Manziel is much closer to Russell Wilson.
Manziel has elite level agility and can make NFL caliber players miss badly in the back field OR in the open field.
He is a much bigger rush threat and less an arm threat than Favre.

But his desire to make plays and ability to bring a football team swagger is almost unmatched except with guys like Favre.

Teams will have to play him to keep him in the pocket and force him to beat you with his arm. They try the same things with Wilson.

At this point you are cross referencing an NFL HOFer with a college player.
I'd like to wait a few years...even regarding how much the "unmatched" playmaking in college translates in the NFL.
Not the same, as you know.

The thing about Doug Free is that he is due 8 million in base salary next year in 2015. If he has another good year he'll say no thanks to a pay cut and test the market. So a smart GM would get a RT now in this draft so he can cut Free next year. Is Martin that guy? The upside is he can play guard this year and may even be better than Bern or Leary - let 'em battle it out and may the best man win. But is Martin able to handle RT down the road? I don't know. What does Callahan think?

How can anybody take this mock seriously??? No Dee Ford in the 1st? And Mcshay keeps pounding for Manziel in the top 5. I'm calling it right now....He is gonna pull a Brady Quinn/Matt Barkley and be sitting for a very long time in the green room. And no Derek Carr either? 1/2 the teams in the league right now have Carr>Manziel

I keep saying, Manziel is a double-edged sword if he drops...on one hand, if he is there at 16, he becomes enormous trade bait, especially if a team like Cleveland picks an OL or WR with their first pick, Jax as well...they may get antsy and try to trade up to get him....on the other hand, you have attention-***** Jones who will revel in the thought of the media-blitz that a Manziel pick would cause....I hope to God that Manziel is taken in the top 10 so that I don't need rolaids and/or a puke bucket next to me on May 8th as they approach the 16th selection in the 2014 NFL draft....

So, you know the boards of half of the teams, but you didn't know that Mike Evans ran a 4.5 as opposed to your claimed 4.65?

Jernigan is a beast, that'd be a great pick.

Don't really understand, everyone complains about our DL situation and when we get mocked a blue chip DT prospect we're complaining because he's not the flavor of the week. Jernigan would bring a level of nasty to our DL that we badly need.

Not a 3 tech in Marinelli system. He likes quick pass rushing players for this position. If he didn't like Floyd why would he pick Jernigan.

Floyd is 320-330lbs. Jernigen is 303. Much faster and more disruptive on a national championship team.

For draft value purposes, I would just assume that Zach Martin is a Guard. If he comes in and can play RT fine, but I wouldn't rate him based on playing OT because it's going against the odds. He would have the smallest wingspan of any OT in the NFL.

If they really want an OT, then just draft Moses in the 2nd. Kouandjio would also be good in the 2nd if he is cleared medically.

This or a trade back to add a 2nd. Then just draft BPA. I wouldn't care of its even a CB. Roby or Verret would be perfect fits for this defense.

This.

Really..

I expect us to trade back and try to pickup another #2 or #3 pick and end up at the end of the 1st or even be picking at the top of the second.

If we could do again what we did last year and pickup 2 starters..

that would very successful.

And we'll have our own 2nd rd. pick as well.

So that would go far for us.

Trade back..make it work again..

Floyd was not 320-330 in the draft last year. Get your facts straight. Floyd was 297 at the combine. Click the link.

Also it doesn't matter if he is much faster than Floyd. Still isnt a pass rushing player that Marinelli likes. What part of that do you not understand. On some teams he would be a 3 tech but not on this team. Doesn't have the pass rush moves, just doesn't.

Did you watch FSU this year? I did. He crushed the pocket consistently from the inside out all year long. As for the weight.... I stand corrected. I could have sworn that was his weight and that was why he wasn't drafted by us last year..... my bad.

Yes I watched FSU this year. Jernigan had his moments. Never said he was a bad player. I said he doesn't have the pass rush moves that marinelli likes. I live in Nashville and watch every SEC game of every SEC team. Then I watch every big out of conference game. I don't catch the FSU vs some no name small school. But yes Jernigan showed flashes and did crush the pocket on occasion but I'm just going off what Marinelli looks for. I've said before that Jernigan would be a 3 tech in some schemes just not in Marinelli scheme.

I would love to draft Jernigan but in the 2nd round or in a trade back which is what I think they tried to do last year with Floyd. I think Jernigan is a great 1 tech in Marinelli scheme. Marinelli doesn't like 320 pound i tech DTs in his scheme. e likes strong players that can hold his gap and also crush the pocket.

i

i despise tamu in many ways but if you are going to pass on manziel you sure better be right.
the most nfl-like defense in college football is without question alabama and manziel made that defense his shoe-shine boy.
cocky and arrogant enough to believe you are the worlds greatest is a trait oddly enough all the worlds greatest seem to share.
humble is vastly overrated.

the spotlight in dallas is sooooo bright and there really isnt room for romo and manziel here long-term so it is definitely not an ideal fit but it was a great problem for green bay to have with favre/rodgers and i'd love to be dealing with drama as long as it leads to super bowls.

I hear you...I really do, BUT ROmo just makes too much money for this to happen IMO. Granted, he's hurt right now and backs can be tricky but in the end, I don't see them taking Manziel with all the huge holes on that Dline.
