FWIW, Drew Boyhardt (The Huddle Report) calls Goldman "The Beast." And, ranks him as the #1 DT in the entire draft. Yes, better than Leonard Williams too. Says, he will be a dominant NFL DT that will give O-Coordinators nightmares as they try to figure out how they're going to stop him. Boyhardt does say he fits best at the Nose in a 3-4, but he has the speed and agility to play DE in a 3-4 also (I don't know how that would translate to the 4-3). Says, he's the type of player you build your entire Defense around. He never takes plays off, and has leadership ability. In short yardage, you'll have to triple-team him in order to gain a yard. On the downside, his body may have taken a lot of abuse because he's so physical and demands double, and triple, team blocks. That's the only knock against him. So, the team physical is going to be very important.

I've always liked Goldman as a player and potential pro. I like the idea of plunking him down beside Crawford and putting smaller, quicker rushers out on the edge (ala Seattle). But Marinelli doesn't go for big DTs along his DL, so I dropped the idea of Goldman months ago. He'll end up in Foxboro and be the next great 3-4 NT in the League.

I think these days some of these draftniks are all trying to be unique, adopt a pet player that goes against the conventional grain and hope they are right.

It is hard to see how anyone with functional eyesight could rate Goldman as the top DT in this class.

I do not distinctly recall Boyhardt being all that special over the years other than the Huddle Report takes itself a little too seriously.

No way we take a 1 tech in round 1.

I like this kid, if we can't get a good DE:
Byron Jones CB Connecticut
I think his rookie year would be more of a learning curve for him but with his size and speed, year two would be a break out year.

Hopefully get the RB from Boise State in 2nd round.

You seem really impressed with Boyhardrt...can you provide some of his past successes where he went against the grain and was right?

I don't see at all especially with Kevin Johnson, Gordon and Humpries still available.

"doesnt offer much in nterms of getting to the QB"

This was all you needed to read to know this mock was garbage.

I think they would take Johnson over Goldman. Will be interesting if either come in for a visit.

Agree and they would be right to do so and I happen to like Goldman, but Johnson is the real deal.

Grady Jarrett seems more like a Maranelli one-tech to me.

My latest fanspeak mock draft (they updated their rankings today):

27: R1P27
DE ALVIN DUPREE
KENTUCKY
60: R2P28
CB RONALD DARBY
FLORIDA ST
91: R3P27
RB JAY AJAYI
BOISE ST
127: R4P28
OT JEREMIAH POUTASI
UTAH
163: R5P27
WR ANTWAN GOODLEY (special teams returner also)
BAYLOR
236: R7P19
OLB J.R. TAVAI
USC
243: R7P26
G JARVIS HARRISON
TEXAS A&M

Seems like it has no bases in current mock draft perception. Those things are a devil to program so expect some interesting results.
