Basic rule of thumb with nerve regeneration is 1mm/day or 1 inch a month.

His nerve will heal. He needs axonal regeneration first followed by a re-myelination of the nerve fibers in the peroneal. Basic body physiology says he will regenerate quite soon. Don't worry fellas.

And this was to have been healed around the 1st week or so of August then.

the entire article is in BTB link up top, including this blurb:
In addition, I did check with a couple experts. These experts are PhD researchers that developed medical devices for nerve regeneration. They are familiar with general nerve recovery facts but not recovery statistics for different surgeries. Based on the researchers, typical nerve regeneration does not yield total functional recovery (what matters) instantaneously when the nerve axon regrowth gets there. Recovery of function often happens over weeks or longer as the muscle regains the ability to exert more force for more cycles. Thus, if Jaylon is to play by the end of the season, Jaylon would likely already have some level of nerve function by now. This is a simple calculation based on the weeks or more of time needed for the muscle to exert more and more force. If so, Jaylon may not be wearing the AFO all of the time, as suggested by the pictures with his nieces.

In terms of this year, he has to start practicing by the 7th. If not, he has to go on IR.

There's no reason to not put him in IR now so there must be something going on that gives the Cowboys a glimmer of hope.

My guess, not knowing how the actual practice rules work................. he starts light practice on the 7th and that then gives the Cowboys until the 28th to officially add him to the 53 or send him to IR.

He will stay on NFI. He does not accrue a season toward free agency that way.

That's why he wasn't placed on IR. What you've read into this is not valid.

that is roughly my expectation also, unless there is a physical that he may still fail at that time.

I forgot about the accrued season. But I thought I read they have to have him back practicing by the 7th or they have to make a decision to IR him then.

Sounds good to me and I wasn't real optimistic but this gives me hope.

No. We've got a three week window for practice. At that point he's either activated or stays on NFI

The team does not have to pay him. I'm sure we are paying him though. I believe this means at the end of his four year deal he'll be an RFA instead of a UFA

That's good. That is even if he plays the last 2 games this year and playoffs?

He'd end up on the active roster for enough games to accrue a season as he'd have to be on the 53 by game 11.

Dallas has said they were paying both JSmith and McFadden.....they both have accrued a season
