As for your initial comment, scouts have football experience, but the type of football experience a scout needs isn't necessarily one of X's and O's but skills of
OBSERVATION. You don't have to play the game to be a scout anymore than just because a player is Hall of Fame material he can be a coach. Coaching requires a particular skill set that doesn't necessarily mean one has to play to possess, though that might be helpful.

Interesting, I see nothing in any of these descriptions about having to play football.
